Summary
Sriven Ventures is seeking to appoint a qualified and experienced Chef to support the ongoing operations of its Indian cuisine restaurant in Tarneit, Victoria.
The business offers a wide range of Indian dishes, including tandoori items, chicken curries, lamb and goat curries, vegetarian curries, naan breads, seafood dishes, chicken starters, speciality items, drinks, desserts, biryani, and catering menu options. The successful candidate will contribute to the preparation and presentation of authentic Indian cuisine while maintaining high standards of food quality, consistency, hygiene, and kitchen efficiency.
This is a full-time role where the successful candidate will be expected to work an average of 38 hours per week, preparing and cooking Indian cuisine in a fast-paced restaurant environment.
Aim of the role
The aim of the Chef role is to prepare, cook, and present high-quality Indian cuisine while supporting daily kitchen operations, menu planning, food safety compliance, and efficient service delivery. The role contributes to the restaurant’s ability to provide consistent, authentic, and profitable menu offerings to dine-in, takeaway, delivery, and catering customers.
The typical job responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:
- Prepare, cook, and present a variety of Indian cuisine dishes, including curries, tandoori items, naan breads, biryani, seafood dishes, vegetarian dishes, starters, and speciality menu items.
- Plan and organise daily food preparation activities to ensure timely service during dine-in, takeaway, delivery, and catering operations.
- Prepare marinades, spice blends, sauces, gravies, curry bases, and other key ingredients used in Indian cooking.
- Operate and maintain kitchen equipment, including tandoor ovens, commercial stoves, grills, ovens, fryers, mixers, and other food preparation equipment.
- Ensure dishes are prepared according to established recipes, portion sizes, presentation standards, and customer expectations.
- Assist in developing and refining menu items that are innovative, commercially viable, and aligned with the restaurant’s Indian cuisine offering.
- Monitor food stock levels, assist with ordering ingredients, and minimise food wastage through effective preparation and storage practices.
- Inspect ingredients for freshness, quality, and suitability before use in food preparation.
- Supervise and support kitchen staff in food preparation, cooking techniques, plating, cleaning, and service procedures.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organised kitchen environment in accordance with food safety, hygiene, and workplace health and safety requirements.
- Ensure all food handling, storage, preparation, and cooking practices comply with applicable food safety standards.
- Coordinate with front-of-house staff to manage customer orders, special dietary requests, and service timing.
- Train junior kitchen staff in Indian cooking methods, safe equipment use, hygiene procedures, and restaurant standards.
- Contribute to efficient kitchen workflow during peak service periods, including evenings, weekends, public holidays, and catering events.
- Maintain consistency in taste, texture, quality, and presentation across all prepared dishes.

- Australian citizens and permanent residents are encouraged to apply.
- At least Certificate IV and above in Commercial Cookery
- More than 3 years of experience as a Chef in a fast-paced Indian restaurant environment.
- Formal culinary training or equivalent experience.
- Strong knowledge of cooking techniques, food ingredients, and commercial kitchen equipment.
- Demonstrated experience preparing Indian cuisine, including curries, tandoori dishes, breads, starters, and specialty dishes.
- Ability to create menus that are both innovative and profitable.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Strong attention to detail and time management skills.
- Ability to work under pressure while maintaining food quality, hygiene, and presentation standards.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
