Primary objective
The Senior Practice Director is accountable for staffing and practice changes designed strengthen our workforce by
increasing specialist offender management expertise and promoting staff resilience and wellbeing.

Context statement
The Community Corrections Practice Leadership Team aim to strengthen offender management responses and build
workforce capacity through strategies outlined in a Practice Enhancement Framework and the Resilience Framework.

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Develop and implement the Practice Leadership Team and Practice Enhancement Framework.
2. Supervise the Senior Practice Leaders, oversight the supervision of the Practice Leaders and contribute to the supervision

and management of front-line Community Corrections staff.
3. Accountability for the evaluation and continuous improvement of the staffing model and framework.
4. Build workforce capacity through resilience training, staff wellbeing initiatives and divisional oversight and increase staff

access to supervision, professional development and training in offender management and risk assessment.
5. Provide expert advice to the Community Corrections branch on domestic and family violence and sexual offending, high

risk, complex, high-profile cases, legal inquiries and sentencing matters, in accordance with the Offender Management
Framework and the Performance Improvement Framework.

6. Complete risk assessment and treatment with complex and high-risk offenders and provide expert opinions and reports
for internal and external stakeholders.

7. Develop and maintain relationships with academic institutions, training providers and interstate correctional services
jurisdictions to strengthen our workforce and practice.

8. Successful applicant must hold a Northern Territory Driver’s Licence and may be required to travel within regional and
remote communities and camp out when required. Travel may be by means of road and air, including on outback roads
in four-wheel drives, light aircraft and boats.

Selection criteria
Essential
1. Tertiary qualifications in psychology with unconditional registration to practice as a psychologist in Australia through

AHPRA, eligibility for full membership of the APS and accreditation as an AHPRA supervisor.
2. Significant forensic experience with domestic and family violence and knowledge of contemporary justice theories.
3. Significant expertise working across culture and a high-level understanding of cultural and contextual factors.
4. Demonstrated high level leadership, negotiation and change management skills including the ability to develop and

maintain trust, establish clear goals and exercise fair and objective judgement.
5. Experience in clinical governance, auditing, research and evaluation and research and expertise in design and

development of supervision, training and continuous improvement frameworks.

Desirable
1. Post Graduate qualifications or equivalent experience in leadership, management.
