About the Mint
The Royal Australian Mint is a small government agency working within the Commonwealth Government Portfolio of the Treasury. The Mint is a non-corporate Commonwealth Entity and is listed under the Public Governance Performance and Accountability Act 2013 (PGPA Act). The Mint is also covered by the Public Service Act 1999 (Cth) (PS Act).

The Royal Australian Mint makes coins and other minted products to serve the needs of the Australian economy, foreign countries, investors and collectors. We are stewards of a thriving national institution that showcases our Nations stories through the National Coin Collection, and a world class museum and gallery experience.

The Royal Australian Mint creates public value through a range of coining and minting-related activities. We play a key role in sharing the stories of Australia by recognising significant anniversaries, events, organisations and cultural perspectives through coins.

The Mint offers some of the most unique career opportunities within the public service, including roles such as:

Coin making – polishing, laser frosting, 3D engraving, Physical Vapour Deposition hard coating, chrome plating, dies inspection and collars manufacture.
Machinery – operate and maintain minting critical machines.
Coin Sculpting – design coins, medals, medallions, and token, etc.
Graphic Design – design coin packaging materials, exhibition graphics, etc.
Engineering – technical support and manufacturing operations.

About the Branch
The Museum and Public Engagement Branch (MaPE) is responsible for a broad range of functions that impact Australian citizens, customers, collectors, and visitors to the Mint. The Branch encompasses coin and graphic design, product development, and sales, while also creating experiences for people through the museum, digital platforms and public programs. They help raise awareness of the Mint and the National Coin Collection among everyday Australians, playing a vital role in educating the community about the significance of currency in society, Australian culture, and key moments in our shared history. The work of the Branch also inspires people to engage with the Mint’s collector coins and the stories those coins preserve.

MaPE delivers a significant commercial program for the organisation, including the design and development of numismatic products and driving innovation in product design. The Branch focuses on generating awareness and engagement through the museum and other experiences onsite and offsite. The goal is to convert this into lasting relationships between the public and the Mint.

About the Role
The Call Centre Operator is the first point of contact for the Mint’s customers. Working in a small team and under limited direction, the Call Centre Operator liaises with internal and external stakeholders to process sales orders for Mint products, receive phone calls and respond to sales related customer enquiries via email and phone, including resolving customer complaints.

The Call Centre operates Monday to Friday between 8:30am and 5:00pm, and the successful applicant will work rostered 8‑hour shifts within these operating hours. This is a full‑time, on‑site position, and due to system access requirements, remote or flexible work arrangements are not available. The role requires reliability and a strong customer service focus.

The Duties
The duties of this position include:
1. Processing sales orders received over the phone, including:
a. managing banking transactions for direct sales;
b. updating the internal order management system; and
c. liaising with internal and external stakeholders to confirm stock levels and manage dispatch of products.
2. Responding to sales related customer enquiries via email and phone, including:
a. creating and maintaining records of enquiries;
b. processing returns, replacement orders and refunds for internal approval;
c. resolving customer complaints.
