About the Branch
The Operations Branch is the manufacturing arm of the Mint. It is an operationally-focused, multi-disciplinary team, responsible for the manufacture of both Australian and foreign circulating coin, collectable coins, and tooling to support those production requirements. The Branch covers coin manufacture, die preparation, blank preparation, electroplating, chemical processing, tooling and machining services, planning and packing.
The Branch has a strong focus on safety, continuous improvement, and quality. The Operations branch is currently embarking on a large program of uplift initiatives, providing a great opportunity for enthusiastic leaders to contribute to meaningful change and development.
About the Role
The Die Polishing Supervisor leads a skilled technical team responsible for polishing the coining dies used in the manufacture of circulating and collectible coins. The role is critical to the Mint's ability to deliver high-quality, world-class numismatic products on schedule, and to required quality standards.
This position combines stewardship of the craft minting skills, and the responsibility for continued development of the polishing capability with supervisory and operational leadership. The role provides direct leadership to staff through work allocation, performance management and on-the-job capability development, while maintaining oversight of product quality, machinery performance and operational risk.
The Duties
- Lead, manage and develop the Die Polishing team to deliver production targets to the required quality standards.
- Plan, prioritise and coordinate workflows to meet production deadlines and quality targets while managing competing operational demands.
- Apply technical expertise to troubleshoot production issues and ensure compliance with relevant quality specifications.
- Anticipate operational challenges, interpret performance data, and engage proactively with stakeholders to resolve issues.
- Conduct and update WHS risk assessments, investigate incidents, maintain team safety training and competency, and foster a culture of safety within the Die Polishing team.
- Monitor quality metrics and deliver monthly performance reports on productivity, quality, and compliance to the Toolroom & Die Polishing Manager.
- Support capital projects and change management activities within own area of responsibility.
- Maintain proficiency with relevant digital systems (ERP, Microsoft Office Suite) and support team capability in system use.
- Contribute to broader organisational goals by aligning team capability development with strategic priorities.
Qualifications
Qualifications in a related trade, manufacturing, engineering, project management, or any othe rrelevant qualification are viewed as desirable.
