About the role:
The Retail Assistant is responsible for assisting in the day-to-day retail operations of The Sewing Basket shops, assisting with retail sales and the functioning of the shop, including dealing with and assisting customers, taking sales, handling cash & EFTPOS transactions, assisting with stock supply and presentation in the shops.
Role Responsibilities:
- Provide support work to a team of employees, volunteers, employees we support to ensure and promote customer satisfaction in the retail outlet.
- Assist in the day-to-day shop workflow organisation and functioning including stock presentation, measuring, and labelling of stock for retail display.
- Assisting customers with point-of-sale transactions, including calculating sales totals, operating the cash register and the EFTPOS terminal. This requires point-of-sale transaction support for customers.
- Maintaining the checkout counter as a tidy and presentable place for customers. •
- Performing the end of day sales tally and reconciliation and complete the necessary daily sales reports.
- Be able to be helpful and active in handling customer enquiries and customer complaints - taking on customer feedback and advising your manager of any issues that arise regarding customer feedback.
- Assist customers to deal with the various restrictions and rules as directed by Achieve Australia.
- Assist to provide customers with the necessary support to ensure that the shopping experience is a happy and satisfying one and that the focus of employees and volunteers is directed towards achieving good outcomes for customers.
- Be presentable and polite in the conduct of your work and offer your respect to all customers of The Sewing Basket.
- Work positively with The Sewing Basket volunteers, providing support, assistance, and camaraderie each day with each team.

To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Demonstrated ability to lead a team.
- Experience in volunteer management and conflict resolution.
- Knowledge and understanding of the NDIS and working with people with disabilities.
- Knowledge of sewing, quilting and/or related craft would be well regarded.
- Current First Aid and CPR certificate
