Perth Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (Reira Pty Ltd)

Are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Operating Theatre Technician to join our Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery team in a fast-paced specialist surgical practice.

Operating Theatre Technicians (also known as Operating Department Practitioners or Surgical Technicians) are critical healthcare professionals responsible for preparing operating theatres, assisting surgeons and anaesthetists, managing surgical equipment, and supporting patient care before, during, and after surgery. The successful applicant will play an integral role in theatre coordination, digital surgical planning, implant workflows, orthognathic surgery planning, advanced imaging systems, and patient care within both hospital and private practice settings.

Key Responsibilities

Operating Theatre & Surgical Assistance

Prepare operating theatres with required surgical instruments, specialist equipment, implants, and consumables for Oral and Maxillofacial surgical procedures
Assist Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons during surgical procedures including:
orthognathic surgery
dental implant surgery
bone grafting procedures
wisdom tooth surgery
dentoalveolar surgery
reconstructive procedures
exposure and bonding procedures
Maintain sterile surgical fields and adhere to strict infection prevention and control protocols
Pass instruments and surgical materials during procedures while anticipating surgeon requirements
Assist anaesthetist's with theatre preparation, patient positioning, monitoring setup, and anaesthetic equipment preparation
Set up, check, clean, and maintain anaesthetic workstations, surgical equipment, suction systems, surgical motors, and theatre equipment
Prepare and manage surgical navigation and guided surgery systems
Assist with cementation of provisional prostheses during surgery
Assist with analogue impressions and conventional restorative workflows when required
Ensure all instruments are packed, cleaned, disinfected, and sterilised in accordance with relevant standards
Monitor and maintain surgical stock levels, implant inventory, sterile consumables, and theatre supplies
Prepare theatre lists and coordinate surgical workflow requirements for operating sessions

Patient Care Responsibilities

Transport and assist patients safely within theatre and clinical environments
Safely transfer and position patients for surgical procedures in accordance with surgical and anaesthetic requirements
Prepare patients pre-operatively including photography, imaging, scanning, consent coordination, and surgical setup
Provide perioperative patient support before, during, and after surgery
Assist with post-operative recovery preparation and discharge coordination
Maintain accurate patient records, surgical documentation, and treatment workflow records

Digital Dentistry & Surgical Planning

Participate in advanced digital surgical planning workflows for implant and orthognathic surgery cases
Coordinate digital workflows between surgeons, restorative dentists, orthodontists, laboratories, and external providers
Operate and manage digital imaging and planning software including:
DTX Studio
DEXIS
Dolphin Imaging
Genie Solutions
Meadow
Utilise digital surgical planning platforms including:
ProPlan CMF
CMFAU
FastMap
X-Guide
Assist with orthognathic digital workflows including:
virtual surgical planning
digital case preparation
study model preparation
surgical splint coordination
digital treatment workflow organisation
Operate intraoral scanning systems including:
TRIOS
Capture and manage intraoral and extraoral clinical photography for surgical planning and documentation
Perform CBCT and OPG imaging workflows and assist with image management and case preparation
Perform 3D printing and model fabrication for surgical planning and restorative workflows using:
SprintRay systems and associated software
Print orthognathic study models, surgical models, and treatment planning appliances

Coordination & Administrative Responsibilities

Liaise with surgeons, dentists, orthodontists, anaesthetists, laboratories, and hospital staff regarding surgery planning and case coordination
Coordinate surgical bookings, digital files, laboratory communication, and workflow management
Assist with implementation and optimisation of digital workflows within the practice
Support training and mentoring of staff in theatre protocols and digital systems
Ensure compliance with infection control, sterilisation, workplace health and safety, and accreditation standards

Essential Skills & Experience

Minimum 3 years’ experience working within Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, hospital theatre, implant surgery, or advanced dental surgical environments
Strong knowledge of operating theatre protocols and sterile technique
Experience with CBCT imaging, implant planning, and orthognathic surgery workflows
Experience with digital dentistry systems and guided surgical workflows
Experience with digital surgical planning, 3D printing, and guided surgery systems (move up to experience section, it was under qualifications)
Current knowledge of infection control and sterilisation standards including AS/NZS 5369:2023
Ability to work efficiently within multidisciplinary surgical teams
Strong organisational, communication, and clinical coordination skills
Ability to manage complex surgical workflows in fast-paced environments
Familiarity with surgical instrumentation, sterilisation procedures, and theatre equipment management

Essential Qualifications

Diploma in Dental Nursing, Operating Theatre Technology, Surgical Technology, or equivalent clinical qualification

Pay: $45.00 – $55.00 per hour
