About the role
This is a 12-month full-time fixed term position with a salary range of VPS 5.2 128,635 - $140,849 plus 12% superannuation.
We are looking for a Senior AI Developer who enjoys solving complex problems, exploring emerging technologies and turning innovative ideas into practical outcomes. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape our AI engineering practices, influence technical standards and deliver impactful solutions across a broad range of business and technology initiatives.
The Senior AI Developer provides senior-level expertise in the design, development and integration of secure, scalable and maintainable digital solutions that support organisational priorities. Working closely with business stakeholders, architects, analysts and delivery teams, you will contribute to the delivery and ongoing improvement of applications and services.
As part of the organisation’s AI Centre of Excellence, you will also play a key role in advancing the responsible adoption of artificial intelligence across the enterprise. This includes identifying practical AI opportunities, supporting prototyping and implementation, and developing reusable patterns, standards and technical practices that align with governance, privacy, security and ethical requirements.

Day to day you'll be expected to:
- Design, develop, test, deploy and support secure, scalable and maintainable applications, integrations and AI-enabled solutions.
- Provide senior technical advice on solution design, code quality, performance, security and support.
- Contribute to the establishment and ongoing development of the AI Centre of Excellence, including reusable components, implementation patterns and technical standards.
- Work with stakeholders to identify where AI, automation and advanced data capabilities can improve services, processes and decision-making.
- Develop and integrate solutions using Microsoft Azure, Azure AI services, Microsoft Copilot, Power Platform, APIs, cloud-native services and data platforms such as Snowflake.
- Lead or support experimentation, prototyping and proof-of-concept activities to assess the value, feasibility and risks of emerging AI use cases.
- Ensure solutions align with enterprise architecture, cybersecurity, privacy, accessibility, records management and responsible AI requirements.
- Contribute to code reviews, DevOps practices, release management, technical documentation and operational support.
- Share knowledge and help build capability across multidisciplinary delivery teams.
Let's talk about you!
You are someone who:
- A relevant tertiary qualification in information technology, computer science, software engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
- Demonstrated senior-level experience in software development, integration and application support within contemporary enterprise environments.
- Experience working with cloud platforms and services, ideally including Microsoft Azure, Azure AI services, Microsoft Copilot, Power Platform or related technologies like Snowflake.
- Experience designing and delivering secure, scalable and maintainable solutions using modern programming languages, frameworks and DevOps practices.
- An understanding of APIs, data flows, interoperability and contemporary enterprise architecture patterns.
- Experience contributing to AI-enabled solutions, automation, advanced analytics, prototyping or proof-of-concept delivery.
- Strong analytical, diagnostic and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to develop practical, customer-focused solutions.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts clearly and work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities under limited supervision.
- Knowledge of governance, privacy, risk and compliance considerations relevant to digital and AI-enabled solutions. Public sector experience would be advantageous.
