Policy Officer
Join State Records NSW as a Policy Officer in the Regulatory Strategy and Partnerships team and contribute to evidence-based policy and risk-informed regulatory initiatives that shape recordkeeping and information management across the NSW public sector, supporting transparent and accountable government.
What the opportunity is:

Employment with State Records Authority NSW.
Clerk Grade 7/8. Remuneration package includes salary ($116,981.00 - $129,492.0- , employer's contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading.

Full-time employment on a temporary basis until 30 June 2027 with the possibility of ongoing employment.

The role will work across Sydney.
What we do
State Records NSW is the statutory regulator of records management and recordkeeping across the NSW public sector under the State Records Act 1998. Our vision is transparent and accountable government, supported by records that provide reliable evidence of decisions, policies, rights and entitlements, and service delivery.
As an expert, best practice and responsive regulator, we provide oversight of recordkeeping across the NSW public sector. We support effective and efficient recordkeeping by setting standards, promoting good practice, monitoring recordkeeping practice and compliance, and providing guidance, advice and resources.
State Records NSW is led by an Executive Director. State Records NSW shares responsibilities under the State Records Act with Museums of History NSW (MHNSW) and works closely with MHNSW on matters relating to records that are required as State archives. Together we form the MHNSW Staff Agency as an executive agency in the Arts portfolio.
A key focus of the role will be strengthening our data-driven regulatory approaches—bringing together compliance, maturity and other sector information to identify emerging risks, target regulatory effort and understand impact. You will also help build productive partnerships with other oversight bodies to coordinate engagement and pursue opportunities for aligning regulatory initiatives.
The role does not require specific expertise in records and information management, but experience in analysing regulatory information and developing policy and/or regulatory advice is key.
What you’ll do with us

Undertake research and analysis, reviewing alternatives in relation to policy deliverables, to contribute to the policy process and to inform decision making.

Provide a range of project management and support services, including preparation of discussion papers, briefs and submissions, to contribute to the development and delivery of policy initiatives.

Prepare and review policy advice to ensure alignment with policy directions and regulatory objectives.

Communicate with key stakeholders and coordinate working groups, committee meetings, and stakeholder consultations to support engagement as well as policy development and implementation.

Undertake research and collate information for reporting, monitoring and evaluation purposes to contribute to the achievement of policy outcomes and regulatory objectives.

Maintain effective and efficient administrative processes and systems for providing information that is timely and accurate.

To be eligible for an ongoing role in the NSW Public Sector you need to be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident. For temporary and casual roles, you need to hold a valid visa giving you permission to work in Australia as required by the role.
