As the largest paediatric health service in Australia, we care for thousands of children each year, in hospital and at home. Our people are united by compassion, collaboration and excellence in care.

Kids Rehab is a paediatric rehabilitation service that provides inpatient, ambulatory, outpatient and other consultative services for children with physical and cognitive rehabilitation needs resulting from injury, illness and some congenital conditions. The model of care aims to provide children and their families with goal-directed, multidisciplinary and specialised rehabilitation to ensure children can reach their full potential. The Speech Pathologist will work within the team of Speech Pathologists in Kids Rehab and Speech Pathologists in the Speech Pathology department to provide an assessment and intervention service to children and young people in inpatient settings who, as a result of injury, a health condition or surgical/medical intervention, require goal-directed, multidisciplinary rehabilitation. The Speech Pathologist will also provide services to patients enrolled in the intensive ambulatory rehabilitation program and other outpatient therapy programs.

This position is operationally managed by the Kids Rehab department and has a professional reporting line to the Head of the Speech Pathology Department at CHW. Applications will be reviewed based on any relevant experience in Speech Pathology. Those with paediatric experience or those who have experience in adult rehabilitation who have an interest in paediatrics are encouraged to apply.

What you'll be doing

The speech pathology department at Children's Hospital Westmead a progressive an innovative place to work. We are a large team providing community, outreach and specialist hospital services with a strong emphasis on evidence based practice, family centred care and embedded clinical research.

The primary purpose of this role is to provide a high quality speech pathology service to children and young people and their carers to ensure optimal health outcomes. This encompasses ensuring effective and efficient assessment and intervention in a multidisciplinary setting. The speech pathologist is also responsible for undertaking designated non-clinical tasks to support service delivery including clinical supervision, quality improvement activities and administrative tasks, Assessment and management of communication and/or feeding/swallowing disorders, liaison with preschools/schools and other agencies as required, recording of all patient interactions in eMR, participation in department supervision and department administrative duties.
