About the role

We are seeking a talented Head Chef to lead our kitchen team at the Strawberry Hills Hotel in the vibrant suburb of Surry Hills, Sydney. As Head Chef, you will be responsible for overseeing all kitchen operations, maintaining the highest standards of food quality and presentation, and leading a high-performing culinary team. This is a full-time role based at our Surry Hills location.

What you'll be doing

Oversee the overall management of the kitchen, including menu planning, budgeting and inventory control.
Lead and supervise the day-to-day operations of the kitchen to ensure efficient workflow and high productivity.
Recruit, train and mentor chefs, commis chefs and kitchen assistants, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.
Develop and refine menus and recipes, incorporating seasonal and locally sourced ingredients.
Ensure strict adherence to food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety standards.
Manage food costs, stock ordering and supplier relationships.
Work closely with the Front of House team to ensure seamless service and an exceptional customer experience.

What we're looking for

Minimum of 1 year's experience as a Head Chef, Sous Chef or in a similar senior leadership role within a high-volume, fast-paced hospitality environment.
Formal culinary training or a relevant qualification in Hospitality or Culinary Arts.
Exceptional culinary skills and a deep understanding of a variety of cooking techniques and cuisines.
Strong leadership and team management abilities, with the capacity to motivate and develop a diverse kitchen team.
Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work under pressure.
Passion for using fresh, seasonal and locally sourced ingredients to create exceptional dining experiences.
Thorough understanding of food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety regulations.
