Assistant Accountant/ Bookkeeper

For over 20 years and across Australia, we at Nextt support people with disability to live safe, meaningful and fulfilling lives in their communities.

As our organisation continues to grow, so does our Finance team. We're looking for an Assistant Accountant / Bookkeeper to join our Sydney-based team and play an important role in maintaining the accuracy, integrity and efficiency of our financial operations.

This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys working with numbers, solving problems and bringing structure to a busy environment. You'll work across multiple entities, supporting day-to-day finance operations while also helping us strengthen and improve our processes.

What You’ll Be Doing
You’ll work closely with the Group Financial Controller and play a key role across our finance operations, including:

Managing the end-to-end accounts payable process across multiple entities
Processing, coding and reconciling high-volume supplier invoices
Preparing weekly payment runs and maintaining accurate supplier records
Completing daily and monthly bank and balance sheet reconciliations
Investigating and resolving discrepancies, unreconciled transactions and outstanding balances
Reconciling corporate cards, expenses, payroll clearing and other accounts
Supporting month-end close, including journals, accruals, prepayments and supporting schedules
Assisting with intercompany reconciliations and fixed asset processes
Supporting historical account clean-up and data integrity projects
Working closely with the Financial Accountant and broader Finance team to meet reporting deadlines
Identifying opportunities to improve finance processes, controls and workflows

What We’re Looking For
We're looking for someone who is organised, practical and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
You'll be someone who:

Has experience in an Assistant Accountant, Bookkeeper or similar finance role
Has strong accounts payable and reconciliation experience
Understands basic accounting principles and general ledger processes
Has experience supporting month-end activities
Is highly organised with excellent attention to detail
Can manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
Is confident investigating discrepancies and following issues through to resolution
Communicates clearly and professionally with suppliers and internal stakeholders
Is comfortable working across multiple entities, business units or cost centers
Takes ownership of their work and looks for ways to improve how things are done

You’ll Ideally Bring:

Strong Excel skills, including lookups, pivot tables and reconciliation formulas
Experience using an accounting or ERP system; MYOB experience is highly desirable
A relevant accounting, bookkeeping or business qualification is desirable
A hands-on and proactive approach to your work
Strong problem-solving skills and a genuine interest in getting to the bottom of discrepancies
The ability to work systematically through historical issues while maintaining accurate ongoing processes
A commitment to confidentiality, financial integrity and accuracy
A collaborative mindset and willingness to support the broader Finance team
Experience in the NDIS, disability, healthcare or another service-based environment will be highly regarded
