Migration Assistant

Support a Registered Migration Agent — help clients navigate Australia's visa system.

About this role

KTM Consulting Group is a trusted migration consultancy based in Canberra. We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive experienced Migration Assistant to join our growing team. Working directly with our Registered Migration Agent (RMA), you will play a central role in delivering high-quality immigration services.

THE ROLE

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Assist the Registered Migration Agent in preparing, lodging and managing visa applications across a range of migration streams.
Conduct thorough research on current migration legislation, policy updates, Home Affairs guidelines and relevant case law to support visa strategies.
Prepare and compile supporting documentation for visa applications, ensuring accuracy and completeness in line with Home Affairs requirements.
Liaise with clients to collect, review and organise required documents, providing clear instructions and ongoing progress updates.
Coordinate and submit skills assessment applications to relevant assessing authorities (e.g. Engineers Australia, TRA, VETASSESS, ACS, AHPRA) and monitor outcomes.
Research occupational skills assessment pathways, matching client qualifications and work experience to the most appropriate assessing body and method.
Maintain and update client files, case management systems and internal databases with precision and timeliness.
Draft professional correspondence, statutory declarations and submissions on behalf of clients under RMA supervision.
Track visa application timelines, bridging visa status and conditions, notifying clients of key milestones and required actions.
Conduct eligibility pre-assessments for prospective clients and communicate findings clearly to the RMA.
Provide general administrative support including scheduling appointments, handling client enquiries by phone and email, and maintaining office workflows.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Key Requirements

✓ Prior experience in a migration agency or law firm working alongside a Registered Migration Agent.

✓ Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a client-first, professional approach.

✓ High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously under deadline pressure.

✓ Familiarity with OMARA obligations, the Code of Conduct, and ethical boundaries of migration assistance.

✓ Extensive, demonstrated experience with employer sponsored visa subclasses 482, 186

✓ Extensive experience preparing skills assessments across multiple assessing authorities.

✓ Exceptional independent research skills with the ability to interpret complex legislation and policy.

✓ A relevant qualification in migration law, legal studies or a related field is highly regarded but not essential.
