Salary: AUD $80,000 – $85,000 per annum plus superannuation (depending on qualifications and experience)

About Barchetta Restaurante

Barchetta Restaurante Pty Ltd is an established Italian restaurant committed to delivering authentic Italian cuisine prepared with fresh, high-quality ingredients and traditional cooking techniques. Our menu celebrates regional Italian flavours while incorporating contemporary culinary practices, providing guests with an exceptional dining experience in a welcoming and professional environment.

Due to the continued growth of our business and increasing customer demand, we are seeking an experienced and passionate Chef to join our kitchen team on a permanent full-time basis.

About the Role

This is a hands-on Chef position responsible for planning, organising and overseeing kitchen operations while maintaining exceptional food quality, consistency and service standards. The successful applicant will play an important role in menu development, kitchen coordination, food preparation, quality assurance and staff supervision within a busy commercial kitchen.

Key duties and responsibilities

· Plan, develop and review authentic Italian menus in consultation with restaurant management, incorporating seasonal produce, customer preferences and market trends.

· Estimate food, ingredient and labour costs to assist with effective kitchen budgeting and cost control.

· Order food supplies and monitor stock levels to ensure efficient kitchen operations while minimising food wastage.

· Prepare, season and cook a wide variety of authentic Italian dishes using traditional and contemporary cooking techniques.

· Monitor the quality of dishes throughout all stages of preparation, cooking and presentation.

· Coordinate daily kitchen operations and supervise food preparation during busy lunch and dinner services.

· Liaise with restaurant management and front-of-house staff regarding menu planning, customer dietary requirements and daily operations.

· Demonstrate advanced cooking techniques and provide guidance, training and supervision to cooks, apprentices and kitchen assistants.

· Ensure compliance with the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code (FSANZ) requirements, food safety legislation, workplace hygiene and WHS procedures.

· Maintain appropriate food storage, freezing and preservation procedures.

· Monitor inventory levels and ensure the availability of ingredients required for daily operations.

· Assist with the continuous improvement of recipes, kitchen procedures and operational efficiency.

· Maintain high standards of cleanliness, organisation and professionalism throughout the commercial kitchen.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

· Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery, Diploma of Hospitality Management, or an equivalent recognised qualification.

· A minimum of three years' relevant full-time post-qualification experience as a Chef in a commercial kitchen (or equivalent experience).

· Demonstrated experience preparing authentic Italian cuisine within a busy restaurant environment.

· Strong understanding of menu planning, food costing, stock control and kitchen operations.

· Sound knowledge of food safety legislation, hygiene practices and workplace health and safety requirements.

· Proven leadership skills with the ability to supervise and mentor kitchen staff.

· Excellent organisational, communication and time management skills.

· Ability to work efficiently under pressure while maintaining exceptional quality standards.
