The Team
We are seeking a full-time Chef to play a key role in the continued success of our restaurant. You will work alongside a passionate and dedicated team to prepare authentic Japanese cuisine, maintain high standards of food quality and presentation, and contribute to the efficient operation of the kitchen. The successful candidate will be committed to teamwork, continuous learning, and delivering an exceptional dining experience.
Qualifications & Skills
- Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery, Diploma of Hospitality Management or an equivalent recognised qualification Minimum of one year's experience as a Chef Experience in Japanese cuisine is highly regarded Strong knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment with strong attention to detail Excellent communication and teamwork skills Reliable, organised, and passionate about preparing high-quality foo
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Plan, develop and review authentic Japanese menus in consultation with restaurant management. Prepare and present a wide range of authentic Japanese dishes, including sushi, sashimi, nigiri, sushi rolls and traditional hot dishes, using appropriate Japanese culinary techniques. Monitor the quality of food throughout all stages of preparation, cooking, presentation and service to ensure consistently high standards. Estimate food, ingredient and labour costs to support effective kitchen operations and cost control. Coordinate daily food preparation and kitchen operations to ensure efficient and timely service. Liaise with restaurant management and front-of-house staff regarding menu planning, customer dietary requirements and daily operations. Supervise, train and provide guidance to cooks and kitchen assistants to maintain consistency in food preparation and kitchen procedures. Ensure compliance with the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code (FSANZ), food safety legislation, workplace hygiene and workplace health and safety (WHS) requirements. Monitor inventory levels and ensure adequate ingredients and kitchen supplies are available for daily operations.
