Digital and Experience Innovation Manager

Museums of History NSW is seeking a Digital and Experience Innovation Manager to lead the delivery of immersive, technology-enabled experiences across our exhibitions, programs and digital platforms. What we do
Museums of History NSW brings together a portfolio of iconic museums, rich collections and heritage sites, the nation’s oldest archive collection, vital recordkeeping services and expert staff.
We bring history to life by sharing the stories of our places and collections. Through the State Archives Collection, we manage NSW’s official documentary heritage, supporting government transparency and the public’s right to access information.
These two roles do not just sit side by side – they inform and enrich each other. By preserving and making accessible our places, collections and archives, we create opportunities for people to explore the past and better understand their own place in the world. Museums of History NSW is a state cultural institution, established under the Museums of History NSW Act 2022. It is an agency of the NSW Department of Creative Industries, Tourism, Hospitality and Sport (DCITHS).
What you'll do with us:
The Digital and Experience Innovation Manager is responsible for driving the organisation’s experience design approach, shaping and supporting the team in the design of innovative, audience-focused experiences that integrate digital, spatial and interpretive elements across exhibitions, programs and platforms. The role provides leadership to a specialist team, including 3D designers and digital support technicians, coordinating the development of immersive, interactive and technology-enabled experiences that align with organisational priorities and enhance audience engagement.
Working within project structures led by the Exhibitions and Interpretation and Programs and Activations teams, the role ensures the effective integration of digital elements and the consistent application of innovative approaches across projects.
The position connects creative, technical and strategic thinking - enabling the team to translate organisational objectives into compelling experiences while maintaining visibility across workstreams, technical feasibility and operational sustainability. It fosters a culture of experimentation and continuous improvement, identifying and implementing new tools, technologies and approaches that expand the organisation’s capability and ambition in digital experience design.
Through strong leadership, collaboration and technical guidance, the Digital Experience and Innovation Manager ensures that digital and 3D design outputs are cohesive, high-quality, and deliver meaningful and engaging visitor experiences across physical and digital environments.

2. Describe a time when you have led a team through competing priorities while fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement. How did you prioritise work, develop capability and ensure the team continued to deliver high-quality outcomes?
Essential requirements of the role:

Demonstrated experience leading the delivery of complex experience design projects, integrating digital, spatial and/or interactive elements.

Proven ability to manage multidisciplinary teams and deliver high-quality, audience-focused digital outcomes.
Strong project and workflow management skills, including prioritisation and resource allocation across competing demands. -
Highly developed communication and stakeholder management skills.

Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline or equivalent professional experience.

Willingness to work across and ability to travel to multiple work locations.
