Full Job Description

Delhi Sweets and Veg Restaurants is an established Indian vegetarian restaurant located in Clearview, South Australia. We offer a wide range of traditional Indian vegetarian dishes, including curries, breads, rice dishes, snacks, sweets and other freshly prepared meals.

We are currently seeking an experienced Cook and Chef to join our kitchen team on a full-time basis.

Key Responsibilities

Depending on the applicant’s experience and position, responsibilities may include:

Preparing and cooking a variety of Indian vegetarian dishes.
Preparing curries, sauces, gravies, rice dishes, breads, snacks, appetisers and sweets.
Checking the quality and freshness of ingredients before use.
Measuring, mixing and preparing ingredients according to recipes.
Monitoring cooking temperatures, preparation methods and presentation standards.
Ensuring meals are prepared consistently and within required service times.
Planning and reviewing menu items in consultation with management.
Assisting with food-cost control, stock monitoring and ordering ingredients.
Properly storing ingredients and applying stock-rotation procedures.
Maintaining food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety standards.
Keeping the kitchen and food preparation areas clean and organised.
Supervising, guiding or training kitchen staff where required.
Working effectively with other kitchen and front-of-house team members.
Accommodating customer dietary requirements and special meal requests where reasonably possible.

Skills and Experience

The successful applicant should have:

A relevant qualification in Commercial Cookery or Hospitality, or equivalent practical experience.
At least two years of relevant experience in a commercial kitchen.
Experience preparing Indian vegetarian cuisine.
Knowledge of Indian ingredients, spices, recipes and cooking techniques.
Good understanding of food safety and kitchen hygiene requirements.
Ability to work efficiently in a busy commercial kitchen.
Good communication, organisation and teamwork skills.
Ability to maintain consistent food quality and presentation.
Availability to work evenings, weekends and public holidays when required.

Applicants with additional experience in menu planning, kitchen supervision, staff training, stock control and food-cost management will be considered for the Chef position.
