About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Pastry Cook to join our team in Adelaide. This is a full-time position suited to someone with strong pastry and baking skills, excellent attention to detail, and a passion for producing high-quality products.
The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing a range of pastries, cakes, desserts, breads and other baked goods while maintaining consistent quality, presentation and food-safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, bake and decorate pastries, cakes, desserts, breads and other baked products.
- Follow established recipes, production schedules and presentation standards.
- Measure and mix ingredients using appropriate techniques and equipment.
- Prepare doughs, batters, fillings, creams, icings and decorative finishes.
- Monitor baking temperatures, cooking times and product quality.
- Develop and trial new pastry and dessert products.
- Estimate ingredient requirements and assist with stock control and ordering.
- Check the quality and freshness of ingredients and finished products.
- Ensure products are prepared consistently and presented to a high standard.
- Maintain a clean, organised and hygienic kitchen and production area.
- Follow food-safety, workplace health and safety, and sanitation requirements.
- Operate and maintain ovens, mixers, proofers and other pastry equipment safely.
- Minimise waste and support effective cost control.
- Assist with training and supervising junior kitchen staff when required.
- Work collaboratively with chefs, bakers, front-of-house staff and management.
Skills and Experience
- Relevant qualification in Commercial Cookery, Patisserie, Baking or a related field.
- At least two years of relevant experience in a pastry cook, baker or similar role.
- Strong knowledge of pastry preparation, baking techniques and dessert production.
- Experience producing cakes, pastries, breads, fillings, creams and decorative finishes.
- Good understanding of food-safety and hygiene requirements.
- Ability to follow recipes and maintain consistent product quality.
- Strong time-management and organisational skills.
- Ability to work efficiently in a busy commercial kitchen.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work early mornings, weekends and public holidays when required.
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods and safely lift kitchen supplies and equipment.
