The Team
Our Dispute & Investigations practice provides independent, analytical advice in the context of disputes, litigation, arbitration and regulatory matters. Within this practice, the role sits primarily within the valuation and financial modelling stream, supporting dispute-related valuation analysis and expert work.
The team specialises in valuations prepared for contentious contexts, including litigation, arbitration, shareholder disputes and regulatory proceedings. Our work is highly analytical, requires careful application of valuation methodologies, is often based on detailed financial modelling, is underpinned by strong foundations in corporate finance theory, and is undertaken a forensic context where assumptions must be defensible and ready for challenge. Further, our work generally culminates in a detailed court/tribunal ready expert report which has been drafted such that it can stand up to counterparty and judicial scrutiny.
How You Will Contribute
As a critical member of the team, you will:
- Deliver (and in many cases lead) complex valuation projects, including the valuation of businesses and equity, acting as a key day to day point of contact for client personnel.
- Play an important role in the drafting of market leading court-ready expert reports.
- Create and interrogate robust valuation approaches for a range of businesses and equity interests.
- Supervise and support the development of junior team members.
- Support Senior and Managing Directors originate mandates and preparing proposals, thought leadership and go to market material.
- Assist with the development of best-in-class templates and ways of working (including the use of AI) to efficiently deliver the highest quality work.
- Be mentored by highly experienced and market leading Senior and Managing Directors who routinely give evidence in leading Australian courts and local and international arbitration forums.
The role is well suited to candidate with deep valuation and corporate finance skills who wishes to apply them in the highly rewarding and interesting dispute context, with the prospects of one day becoming a leading expert witness in their own right.
Qualifications
You will have proven experience in Business Valuations, an entrepreneurial mindset, and the desire to make a positive difference. If you have had exposure working with clients in the mining industry this would be favourable.
You’ll also bring:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Commerce, or a related quantitative field with a strong academic background.
- A CA, CPA or CFA qualification
- Experience with industry-standard research tools, such as CapitalIQ
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, demonstrating a methodical approach to complex issues.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel; experience with VBA programming is highly desirable.
- Superior attention to detail with the ability to work effectively with complex financial information/financial models.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated capacity to manage multiple projects and deliver results within tight deadlines.
- Experience and willingness to train and mentor junior members of the team
