Primary objective
Support the agency’s work with private sector proponents, investors, government agencies and others to grow trade and
attract investment into the Northern Territory, particularly from the Asian Region.

Context statement
The Trade and Investment Opportunities Division works in partnership with teams across the department, government and
industry to develop, implement, and advocate for strategic economic, industry growth and reform strategies. This work
drives an ambitious investment and trade program, promoting and bolstered by bold advocacy for the Territory.

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Working with the Director, Networks and Engagement, develop compelling investor centric messages and content to

position the Territory as a competitive and attractive destination for trade and investment.
2. Coordinate and develop proactive, investor specific presentations and pitches, working across government to draw on

data, evidence and subject matter expertise.
3. Inform the development and distribution of investment promotion material and digital engagement, in consultation with

the agency’s Market Engagement and communications team.
4. Research and qualify investors in target markets and sectors aligned to the Territory’s investment priorities and inform

the development of investor and stakeholder engagement plans.
5. Facilitate engagement with key stakeholders (including across the agency, government, Austrade, international

organisations, financial institutions and private sector investors) with the ability to influence awareness and
consideration of investment opportunities in the Territory, and provide strategic policy advice.

Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated knowledge of how to identify what it is important to investors and experience in investor engagement.
2. Extensive experience in investment promotion and attraction, including successful implementation of targeted

investment and promotional strategies using cost effective channels to achieve commercial objectives.
3. Strong communication, presentation and outward facing skills, including the ability to represent the Territory with

authority and credibility, and provide clear, concise and compelling information tailored to the target audience.
4. Demonstrated experience in proactively managing key external stakeholders to maintain investment opportunity

positioning and build a network of advocates, especially in international markets.
5. Strong teamwork skills, including the ability to work collaboratively across Government, to gather information and

deliver high quality investment engagement activities.
6. Advanced research, analytical and synthesis capability, including the ability to quickly gather information on unfamiliar

subjects, such as investment source markets, trade-related matters, projects, proponents, industries and related policies.
7. Demonstrated ability to coordinate tasks and guide the work of team members to meet timelines and deliver project

milestones.
8. Demonstrated experience in effective written and communication skills with experience in preparing briefings, reports

and correspondence and presenting complex information in plain English.

Desirable
1. Relevant tertiary qualifications in marketing, business, public relations, international relations or another relevant field.
2. Understanding of cross-cultural/linguistic communication in international investment contexts.
