Make a difference through Victoria's water monitoring network

The Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA) is seeking a motivated and collaborative Water Monitoring Coordinator to support Victoria's Regional Water Monitoring Partnerships and help deliver critical water monitoring programs across the state. Working within the Water and Monitoring team, you will play an important role in coordinating water monitoring activities, building strong relationships with partner organisations and service providers, and supporting the collection and sharing of water data that informs water management decisions across Victoria.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with water sector experience who enjoys stakeholder engagement, project coordination and delivering practical outcomes that support communities, industry and the environment.

About us

The Water and Catchments Group works in partnership with water corporations, catchment management authorities, Traditional Owners and communities to manage Victoria's water and catchment resources.

Within the Water Resource Strategy Division, the Register and Monitoring Services Branch is responsible for collecting, managing and sharing Victoria's water information, operating the Victorian Water Register, and overseeing the Surface Water Monitoring Network on behalf of the Regional Water Monitoring Partnerships.

About the role

As Water Monitoring Coordinator, you will work closely with water corporations, catchment management authorities, government agencies and service providers to ensure regional water monitoring programs meet partner needs and continue to deliver high-quality monitoring outcomes.

Key responsibilities include:

Coordinating the delivery of water monitoring programs and associated maintenance activities across regional partnerships.
Providing technical water monitoring advice and facilitating knowledge sharing across the sector.
Managing monitoring and maintenance projects on behalf of DEECA and partnership organisations.
Supporting contract administration and service delivery activities in partnership with DEECA contract managers.
Developing and maintaining effective relationships with partner organisations and service providers.
Supporting Water Monitoring Committees and subcommittees, including meeting coordination, minute taking and action management.
Coordinating the collection and dissemination of water monitoring data during flood events and water quality incidents.
Contributing to a culture of cultural safety, collaboration and continuous improvement.

About you

We are looking for a professional who can build strong stakeholder relationships and coordinate projects in a dynamic operational environment.

To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:

Experience coordinating projects, programs or service delivery activities.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across organisations.

Desirable qualifications and experience

Qualifications in engineering, science, natural resource management or a related discipline.
Experience working within the water sector, particularly in water monitoring, water resource management or related fields.

Special requirements

The role may involve:

Field-based activities and participation in emergency response activities.
Occasional out-of-hours work, weekend work and overnight travel.

This is a fixed term position available for 12 months. The work location for this position is 8 Nicholson Street, East Melbourne / Flexible within Victoria with hybrid work arrangements available.
