Your role
The Housing Fraud Unit (HFU) is the central hub for identifying, investigating, and addressing allegations of frauds and non-disclosure in Housing assistance. Working closely with client services legal teams, we ensure thorough investigation under the Housing Act 2001 (NSW) and Crimes Act 1900. The HFU helps maintain the integrity of housing programs and ensure resources are directed to those who genuinely qualify and need assistance.
As the Housing Fraud Investigator your work is critical in supporting a fair and transparent system, and prioritising equitable access to housing support. You will manage the end-to-end investigation of allegations of fraud with DCJ Housing assistance programs.
What you’ll do
As part of the Housing Fraud Unit, Homes NSW Service Delivery & Assurance Hub, you will plan and undertake investigations including evidence gathering and analysis, based on your up-to-date knowledge of policy, procedure and legislation.
You will interview and take statements, issue legal notices, and collaborate with legal teams. At times you may be required to represent DCJ at court. This involves accurate record keeping and comprehensive report writing.
In addition to analysing evidence, you will be called upon to provide expert advice on complex fraud investigations and interpreting legislations to client services and senior management.

What we’re looking for
Comprehensive knowledge of tenancy management, rent subsidies and housing policies is crucial.
Strong organisational skills in a high-volume work environment.
Strong written and verbal communication skills to prepare reports and brief of evidence.
An analytical mindset to critically evaluate complex concepts and legislations.
Demonstrate effective engagement and able to collaborate with various stakeholders at all levels.
Creative problem-solving skills to gather hard to find and overlooked information and evidence.
Essential Requirements
Tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience in the relevant area.
Extensive knowledge about DCJ Housing policies, processes and procedures.
Hold a Certificate IV in Government Investigations or willingness to obtain within 12 months.
Current, valid Driver’s licence and willingness to travel. Overnight stay may be required.
Desirable requirements:
Knowledge of Homes NSW policies and rent subsidy program.
Experience in Homes NSW database HOMES and record keeping system TRIM.
