ABOUT HIKMA HOUSE

Hikma House is a registered NDIS service provider dedicated to delivering safe, high-quality, and affordable disability housing and support services to participants across Melbourne. Established in 2017, we specialize in Supported Independent Living (SIL), Complex Care, Out-of-Home Care, and Forensic Care services.

With multiple accommodation properties and support locations across Melbourne, Hikma House serves individuals with diverse disability support needs. Our mission is to empower participants by promoting independence, offering flexibility, and giving them the freedom to make choices that enhance their quality of life.

We work across the Brimbank Melton, Hume Moreland, Inner Eastern Melbourne, and Northeastern Melbourne service districts, supporting participants to live more empowered and meaningful lives.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We're looking for a caring, reliable aged & disabled carer to join our team. You'll provide direct support to NDIS participants, helping them with daily activities and contributing to their quality of life and independence.

This is a hands-on role where you'll make a real impact every day. You'll work as part of a supportive team, providing person-centered care that respects each participant's choices and dignity.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Personal Care: Assist clients with personal hygiene, including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and menstrual care, ensuring comfort and dignity at all times
Mobility Support: Assist clients with their mobility, including transfers (e.g., bed to chair, toilet to shower), walking, and navigating their homes and community environments safely
Daily Living Assistance: Perform housekeeping tasks such as vacuuming, cleaning, laundry, and maintaining a safe, tidy living environment
Nutrition & Feeding: Prepare nutritious, appetizing meals in accordance with clients' dietary requirements, preferences, and any special needs; assist with feeding where necessary
Social & Emotional Support: Provide companionship, friendship, and emotional support to promote mental well-being; arrange and accompany clients to social activities, community engagements, hobbies, and appointments
Medication & Health Management: Assist with medication reminders (administration under supervision), simple wound care management, and identify and report changes in client health or behaviour to supervisors
Community Participation: Support clients in accessing community resources, attending appointments, shopping, running errands, and engaging in activities that promote independence
Complex Care Support: Provide specialised support to individuals with complex needs, including those exhibiting behaviours of concern, dual diagnoses, or specific medical requirements
Skill Development: Teach and encourage life skills, independent living skills, and strategies to build confidence and capacity for self-management
Live-In Care Support: Be available to live in with participants where required by the specific shift arrangement and support needs
Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate care records through ShiftCare system, document support provided, and communicate effectively with care teams and supervisors
Compliance & Safety: Comply with all WHS requirements, NDIS Quality & Safeguarding standards, policies and procedures, and person-centred care principles
Behavioural Support: Implement positive behaviour support strategies and trauma-informed care approaches to manage challenging behaviours and reduce restrictive practices

SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Essential Requirements:

Skill Level 3: AQF Certificate III including at least two years of on-the-job training, AQF Certificate IV, or at least three years of relevant experience
Minimum 1 year of full-time direct care experience in Aged Care, Disability Support, Community Care, or NDIS services
Strong demonstrated commitment to person-centred, compassionate care
Ability to provide physical assistance and manual handling safely using correct techniques
Excellent communication skills - both written and verbal
Strong interpersonal and emotional intelligence skills
Ability to work independently and use initiative, as well as part of a collaborative team
Experience working with individuals with complex needs, behaviours of concern, or diverse backgrounds preferred

Mandatory Requirements:

NDIS Worker Screening Check (Essential) - must pass clearance
First Aid and CPR Certificate (Current and valid)
Working with Children Check (Desirable)—required for roles working with young people
Valid rights to work in Australia .
Must be under 45 years of age at time of visa application
