About the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission

The Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission is the national regulator of Australian Government-funded aged care services.

We protect and enhance the safety, health, wellbeing, and quality of life of people receiving aged care. This includes managing complaints and feedback about the care older people receive.

We help build confidence and trust in aged care, by promoting best practice and a culture of safety and quality in the sector. We register providers and hold them to account if they don’t meet expected standards of care.

We work with providers, workers, older people, their families, and supporters to make sure they understand and uphold older people’s rights.

About the Team

The Freedom of Information (FOI) team are responsible for addressing FOI requests and enquiries on behalf of the Commission to various internal and external stakeholders. This is achieved through the strategic development and implementation of robust processes and continuous improvement strategies to meet new challenges as they arise.

The FOI team are also responsible for regular reports to the FOI and Privacy regulator, the Office of the Australian Information Commission (OAIC) as well as the Commission’s own annual report.

The team are responsive, trusted, and reliable who provide valued advice to applicants and staff at all levels.

About the Role

Freedom of Information officers liaise with members of the public seeking documents, to assist them with their request, and to accurately scope and respond to them. The Freedom of Information Officer sources relevant documents and records from across the Commission, consults with various stakeholders, prepares schedules of documents, and correctly applies relevant legislation in making or preparing decisions.

Position Duties

Processing information access requests in a manner that complies with legal obligations. including the application of relevant statutory timeframes.
Liaising with applicants to assist them to seek documents and to clearly identify the requested documents.
Conducting and coordinating reasonable searches for requested documents.
Accurately identifying exempt material within requested documents.
Clearly explaining the reasons for a decision utilising the various legal provisions available.
Accurately maintaining data and records.
Developing positive and collaborative working relationships with various internal and external stakeholders.

Position Eligibility Requirements (Selection Criteria):
To be successful in this role you will need to demonstrate the following:

Demonstrated analytical skills, including the ability to assess documents and identify exempt material
Strong written and verbal communication skills including the ability to write comprehensive reasons for decisions and communicate with influence with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
A high standard of attention to detail.
Strong oral communication skills, including the ability to liaise with external parties and negotiate outcomes
Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively as part of a team to achieve positive outcomes and a positive workplace culture
Developed computer literacy skills, including the capacity to effectively learn and utilise Microsoft office/teams and other professional applications.
Demonstrated organisational skills, including the capability to plan and prioritise work tasks, and manage concurrent activities to meet deadlines.
Sound understanding of Freedom of Information laws and guidelines, and relevant Aged Care laws is desirable

Position Notes:
Salary offered will be between $89,135- $96,829 per annum depending on skills and experience. In addition, 15.4% superannuation will be paid.

Non-ongoing opportunity will be offered for an irregular/intermittent term. Opportunities will be offered for varying periods up to 12 months with the option to extend to a total of 24 months.
