Due to continued growth, we are seeking an experienced Mortuary Technician to join our Operations Team at our Underwood Operations Centre.
This is not an entry-level role.
We are seeking someone who is already experienced working within a mortuary or deceased care environment and can confidently work independently while maintaining the highest standards of care.
The Opportunity
Working as part of our Funeral Operations Team, you will play an essential role in ensuring every person entrusted to our care is treated with professionalism, dignity and respect.
You will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of our mortuary and work closely with Funeral Directors, Funeral Operations staff and our external Trade Embalmers.
This role does not require you to undertake embalming, however previous exposure to embalming environments would be advantageous.
Key Responsibilities
- Receiving people into our care and maintaining accurate identification procedures
- Preparing the deceased for family viewings, including dressing, grooming and casketing
- Managing mortuary hygiene, presentation and infection control standards
- Coordinating deceased movements throughout the mortuary
- Maintaining accurate documentation and chain of custody procedures
- Assisting Funeral Directors with viewings and special family requests
- Preparing coffins and caskets for services
- Liaising with our external Trade Embalmers regarding embalming requirements
- Monitoring mortuary supplies, equipment and cleanliness
- Maintaining strict compliance with health, safety and infection control procedures
About You
To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:
- Previous experience working within a funeral home mortuary, hospital mortuary, forensic mortuary or comparable deceased care environment
- Confidence working independently
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Strong organisational skills
- A calm and respectful approach to deceased care
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- High personal standards of cleanliness and professionalism
- The ability to remain composed under pressure
- Physical capability to safely undertake manual handling tasks
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and dignity at all times
Essential Requirements
- Minimum 2 years' experience in a comparable mortuary or deceased care role
- Current Open Driver Licence
- Ability to perform manual handling safely
- Availability to participate in an after-hours roster if required
- Permanent Australian working rights or unrestricted New Zealand working rights
