Full Job Description

The Australian and Queensland governments have jointly committed $9 billion - an 80:20 funding arrangement - for the Bruce Highway Targeted Safety Program (BHTSP), marking the largest single investment in the highway to date. This initiative aims to reduce crash severity and frequency, particularly between Gympie and Cairns, through measures such as wide centre line treatments, audio tactile line marking, intersection upgrades, rest areas, pavement strengthening, overtaking lanes, and upgrades to narrow structures, with completion targeted by 2030. It builds on over $6 billion in planned investment under the Queensland Transport and Roads Investment Program (QTRIP) 2024-25 to 2027-28. Project prioritisation will be guided by the Bruce Highway Advisory Council and both levels of government, with a corridor-wide fatigue management strategy informing rest area and stopping place upgrades.

The Role
In the role of Engineer (Civil), with supervision and guidance from senior engineering staff, you will project manage the planning and delivery of road infrastructure projects through the administration of contracts and provision of technical expertise and support to the planning, design, construction and maintenance processes. In doing this you will ensure effective coordination of key operational activities and resources associated with project management and process development.

Some of your responsibilities will include:
- Assist in the selection of the most suitable contract process for project delivery then administer the contract to ensure compliance and successful delivery.
- Assist the 'TMR Area Engineer' for a specific local government with the delivery of Road Maintenance Performance Contracts within the District to ensure time, cost, safety and quality requirements are achieved.
- Determine appropriate bridge and road maintenance procedures, work instructions and manage road and bridge maintenance tasks.
- Determine appropriate bridge and road functional layouts to support the long-term objectives of the road network.
- Calculate quantities of component materials, analyse test results for materials, identify non-conformances, determine the controls needed during construction and conduct and manage risk assessment.
- Manage under supervision, projects, or elements of projects and provide support and advice on the planning and design process, to ensure delivery of project outcomes, value for money and best practice are achieved, ensure all quality management procedures are adhered to and maintain effective liaison and communication with internal and external stakeholders.
- Liaise with local government and service authorities to develop appropriate solutions to issues within the road network.
- Identify possible problem areas and negotiate modifications or adaptations to the design briefs where necessary to achieve acceptance.
