Salary: PROAW, $152,673 - $158,613 p.a. plus 12% superannuation (POA 2024)

Work type: Fixed Term - Full Time, Permanent - Full Time

Location: Various Statewide Locations

This recruitment pool will run for a period of twelve months and may be used to fill ongoing vacancies and permanent opportunities.

Currently, there are nine permanent position(s) available for immediate filling.

About the role

The Principal Officer provides leadership and direction to uniformed staff within the context of the prison’s specific environment and monitors all areas under their control for staff effectiveness, probity, conduct and behaviour, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures and all required standards are met, making improvements where necessary, together with contributing to the development of strategic, operational and business plans of the prison.

The Principal Officer is an integral part of prison leadership in ensuring that the day-to-day operation of the prison/unit is both effective and efficient. They are responsible for ensuring that the operations of the prison conducted by uniformed staff are in accordance with the statutory requirements and Department of Justice policies and procedures as directed by the Prison Superintendent.

Eligibility

Permanent positions – To be eligible for appointment to permanent positions in the West Australian Public Sector you must be an Australian citizen or have permanent resident status in Australia.

WWC positions – In accordance with the National Child Safety Principles, people who work directly with children and young people, you must have a current Working with Children Check or be able to successfully apply for one to be eligible for appointment to this position.

Special conditions – To be eligible for appointment as a Principal Officer, applicants are required to first be a substantive Senior Prison Officer within the WA Prison Service and be up to date with all mandatory training requirements.

Pool Recruitment

This pool will be open for a period of 12 months from the day after the breach of standard claim period closes. Permanent and temporary appointments may be offered as vacancies arise; however, an appointment is not guaranteed.

To be appointed to a vacant position, the successful applicant must be compliant with current leave policies and maintain currency in all required operational skills training.
