Where you'll be working

Join baiyangbaiyaang, NSW's first statewide residential eating disorder treatment service. Meaning "Butterfly, the one who flutters" in Aboriginal language, baiyangbaiyaang brings together a 12-bed Residential Eating Disorders Centre (REDC) in Charlestown and an Eating Disorders Day Program (EDDP) in Newcastle CBD.

The purpose-built REDC provides intensive, specialist treatment for people aged 16 years and over in a welcoming, home-like environment. Set within a peaceful bushland setting, the service delivers evidence-based individual and group interventions through a rehabilitation-focused model of care that supports recovery, psychosocial wellbeing, and improved quality of life.

About the role

As a Clinical Psychologist/Clinical Psychologist in Training, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality eating disorder treatment across baiyangbaiyaang's residential and day programs. Working as part of a skilled multidisciplinary team, you will provide individual and group therapy, contribute to service development, and support positive outcomes for clients and their families.

Key responsibilities include:

Conducting comprehensive assessments and delivering evidence-based, recovery-oriented interventions.
Developing and facilitating individual and group treatment programs for people with eating disorders and their families/carers.
Supporting collaborative discharge planning and continuity of care with community and outpatient services.
Promoting psychosocial engagement and strengthening connections between clients and community supports.
Contributing to program evaluation, quality improvement initiatives, and service development.
Providing supervision, consultation, and support to less experienced staff and engaging with broader psychology and eating disorder networks.

About you

You are an experienced and compassionate clinician with expertise in the assessment and treatment of eating disorders and a strong commitment to recovery-oriented care. You thrive in multidisciplinary environments, building meaningful therapeutic relationships and working collaboratively with clients, families, carers, and colleagues to achieve positive outcomes. With excellent interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills, you bring a flexible, client-centred approach to care and a passion for service improvement and innovation. You value the unique contribution of psychology while embracing the perspectives and expertise of other disciplines, recognising the importance of collaborative practice in supporting recovery.

Requirements:

Generally registered as a psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia with area of practice endorsement in clinical psychology.
Provisional Psychologists enrolled in an APAC-accredited Master of Clinical Psychology Course will be considered (Clinical Psychologists in Training). For Clinical Psychologists in Training, please note that you are required to nominate your placement coordinator as a referee

Additional Information:

To be eligible for employment in this position you must be an Australian Citizen, or permanent resident of Australia, or a New Zealand citizen with a current New Zealand Passport, or hold an appropriate visa that allows you to live and work in Australia. Employment of a temporary visa holder will only be offered in line with the conditions and expiry date of your visa.
An eligibility list will be created for future temporary full or part time vacancies.
