The Project
Worley is supporting the Alcoa Portland as a multidiscipline team undertaking engineering design services. The work comprises of engineering support for sustaining capital projects and operational projects on a brownfield site.
We are looking for a motivated individual that wants to grow in their professional career. You will be supporting a site-based project team at Alcoa’s Portland aluminium smelter operations.
This role is based at the Alcoa Portland site (3.5hrs drive from Geelong/5.5 hrs drive from Melbourne); the role requires the candidate to be based at Portland and self-travel to site 5 days a week.
You will be supported by experienced engineers and designers located at site to ensure that you have hands on experience to complement your current experience.
The Role
As an Electrical Designer with Worley, you will work closely with our existing team and the client to deliver projects while continuing to develop your skills and experience. Your responsibilities will include:
- Deliver discipline specific engineering design services that meet Worley, the client’s and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.
- Proactive interest in leveraging digital and AI-enabled tools in day-to-day work.
- Ensure a ‘fit for purpose’ solution from concept through to as built is developed considering safe and sustainable design, operability, maintainability and decommissioning.
- Proactively seek an understanding of the safety hazards and risks associated with the asset lifecycle of the designed product, plant or structure; be responsible for action and close out where relevant.
- Identify issues and problems; develop appropriate and innovative solutions; and ask for assistance if required.
- Perform discipline specific engineering design services such as:
- Deliver tasks as per the scope of work with active awareness of the change management process
- Prepare/support the production of calculations, drawings and related documentation.
- Support project reviews and workshops as required.
- Interfacing with other peers, seniors, engineering disciplines and Workshare team to complete engineering design and ensure delivery of high-quality deliverables.
- Where required, assist in the preparation of project documentation such as budgets, estimates, forecasts, schedules, and reports.
- Interpret and apply the applicable technical standards.
- Ensure self-check is completed on all deliverables and ensure compliance with checking and review activities as per Worley processes.
- Ensure design interfaces between work packages are clear and there is alignment across the overall design package.
- Understand interdisciplinarity interfaces across design packages.
About You
To be considered for this role it is envisaged you will possess the following experiential attributes:
- Advanced Diploma of Engineering Technology - Electrical or an Electrical Tradesperson who has completed the Electrical Design, Drafting and Estimates course.
- Electrical License (highly regarded).
- Minimum 6 years in electrical and Instrumentation design and drafting experience in a similar industry highly regarded.
- Experience across phases of engineering projects from concept design, execution, construction and commissioning.
- Excellent understanding of Australian electrical standards.
- Experience in following software and tools:
- Microstation SE and or AutoCAD 18 and above.
- Microsoft Office and excel.
- Good understanding and proven experience in:
- Single line diagrams, schematics, termination diagrams, block diagrams, cable routing, equipment layouts, lighting design, earthing layouts.
- Control system and instrumentation interfacing.
- Integration between equipment, control systems and field devices
- Supporting design solutions, integration between systems, as-building, construction and commissioning.
- Understanding of shutdown planning and considerations for design.
