The Department of Justice and Community Safety (Youth Justice) is responsible for the statutory supervision of young people in the criminal justice system in Victoria focussing on prevention, diversion, and early intervention as the most effective and fiscally responsible ways of reducing youth crime. As an area within the department, Youth Justice is committed to the demonstration of the Victorian Public Sector values. Youth justice custodial centres accommodate young people aged 12-18 years who have been remanded or sentenced by the Criminal Division of the Children's Court, and some 18–21-year-olds sentenced by Adult Courts to a youth justice custodial centre.
The Business Support Officer plays a key role in supporting the effectiveness and efficiency of the Operational Leadership and Capability Team and Classification and Placement Unit, delivering a broad range of high-quality administrative, coordination, and logistical services that underpin the team's day-to-day functions. The role contributes to the successful planning, implementation, and evaluation of staff development programs and operational capability initiatives aimed at building a skilled, responsive, and professional custodial workforce.
Travel between precincts and external training venues is required.
The opportunity

Full time, Fixed-Term position, through to 30th June 2027.

The role is primarily based at the Parkville Youth Justice Precinct, with an anticipated split of approximately two days per week supporting the Classification and Placement Unit and three days per week supporting Operational Leadership and Capability team, with flexibility to work across precincts (Malmsbury & Cherry Creek) and Training Centres to meet operational needs.

VPS3 role: $81,496 - $98,955 per year plus super.

Provide high-level administrative support, including meeting coordination, agenda and minute preparation, correspondence management, and record keeping.

Support the planning and delivery of training, professional development, and capability-building initiatives for custodial staff.

Assist with preparing reports, briefing notes, presentations, and documentation for internal and external stakeholders, including supervision and program reports.

Maintain and update databases and registers related to staff coaching and Higher Duties Assignment (HDA) processes.

Identify improvements and contribute to the development of new systems and processes in collaboration with the relevant subject matter experts across the department

Support project coordination through planning, logistics, and tracking of deliverables.

Assist with procurement and financial administration tasks as needed.

Contribute actively to the Operational Leadership and Capability team & Classification and Placement Unit, providing timely and effective customer service support to internal manager and staff.
To be successful in this role you will have:

Experience in the provision of confidential, personal and administrative support functions including database management and Microsoft Office applications.

Experience supporting training or learning and development programs, and/or working in government is desirable.

A current full driver's license is required as travel to other offices within the department may be required.
You will be required to obtain a Working with Children Check (WWCC) to be maintained by the employee for the period of employment.
