Position Information

Melrose Park High School is an exciting new secondary school located in Melrose Park, scheduled to open in 2027. Commencing initially with Years 7 and 8, the school will grow progressively by adding a year level each year until it becomes a full Years 7 to 12 high school. The school will also include a dedicated Support Unit as an integral part of the school community.

Our vision is to create an inclusive and high-expectation learning community where every student is empowered to achieve excellence and grow as a confident, future-ready learner.

Melrose Park High School will feature modern, purpose-built facilities designed to support high-quality teaching and learning. Contemporary learning spaces, specialist facilities and flexible environments will provide opportunities for students to engage in innovative, collaborative and future-focused learning experiences. As a new school, our facilities have been designed to support the needs of today’s learners while creating opportunities for excellence, creativity and connection.

This is a unique opportunity to join the foundation team and play a pivotal role in establishing a new school from the ground up. Working closely with the Foundation Principal and leadership team, successful applicants will contribute to the development of whole-school systems, structures, curriculum and teaching practices that will shape the educational experience for students and staff for years to come.

Foundation staff will have the opportunity to establish strong professional relationships, contribute to a positive and inclusive school culture, and support the development of innovative approaches that promote student engagement, achievement and wellbeing. Staff will play an important role in embedding a shared vision and creating a learning environment that reflects the aspirations of the Melrose Park community.

There are also opportunities to contribute to key school priorities, including High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE), explicit teaching practices, literacy and numeracy development, student voice and agency, and inclusive learning practices.

The successful applicant will demonstrate strong leadership and organisational skills, initiative, and the ability to work proactively and collaboratively within a dynamic and evolving school environment. This is a rare opportunity to make a significant contribution to the foundation of a vibrant and future-focused school that supports and inspires both students and staff as it grows.

Selection Criteria

1. Approval to teach special education and/or experience in delivering high-quality educational programs for students with Autism, intellectual disability, emotional disturbance, trauma and complex behavioural or social needs in a Support unit setting.

2. Highly developed communication, organisational and interpersonal skills, with demonstrated capacity to build and maintain positive, collaborative partnerships with students, parents/carers, colleagues and external agencies to support student learning, wellbeing, engagement and successful participation in school.

3. Demonstrated ability to develop, implement and review teaching and learning programs, personalised learning plans, behaviour support plans and health support plans, including students with complex learning and behaviour needs.

4. Capacity to establish the initial class within the support unit by designing, implementing structures and processes to support evidence-based practice and high expectations to improve students' academic, social, communication, emotional and behavioural outcomes.

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
