Full Job Description

The Electrical Technician / Winder is responsible for the inspection, diagnosis, repair, rewinding, assembly and testing of electrical rotating equipment and associated coils. The role supports Arcolec's industrial and marine customers through quality workshop workmanship, safe on-site service and accurate technical records.

General electrical duties

Prepare and follow Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), Safe Work Method Statements (SWMSs) and other required risk controls.
Comply with applicable work health and safety requirements, site rules, workshop procedures and induction requirements.
Visually inspect electrical equipment, including motors, alternators, generators and transformers.
Diagnose faults in AC and DC electrical systems and determine appropriate repair requirements.
Perform electrical installation work and testing in accordance with applicable legislation, standards, procedures and manufacturer requirements, including AS/NZS 3000 where relevant.
Carry out on-site repairs, testing, removal, installation and commissioning of motors and electrical equipment as required.
Complete job records, winding data sheets, test results, timesheets and quality documentation accurately.
Maintain tools, test equipment and work areas in a safe, clean and serviceable condition.

AC motors

Disassemble and inspect single-phase and three-phase AC induction motors.
Record winding data, including slot numbers, coil pitch, turns and wire size.
Remove damaged windings and insulation materials using approved methods.
Rewind stators using the specified copper conductors, winding configuration and insulation class.
Varnish, bake and cure windings in accordance with workshop procedures.
Assemble motors, including bearings, seals and cooling components.
Complete insulation resistance, winding resistance, surge, high-potential, phase-balance and earth-continuity testing as applicable.
Perform final inspection, operational testing and commissioning of AC motors.

DC motors

Disassemble and inspect DC motors, armatures, field systems and associated components.
Rewind DC armature coils and field coils to the required specification.
Inspect, clean, test and service commutators.
Inspect, set up and replace brushes and brush holders where required.
Test armature and field windings, including resistance and insulation testing.
Reassemble and functionally test DC motors.
Alternators and generators
Disassemble and inspect alternators and generators.
Rewind stator and rotor windings.
Replace insulation systems and slot liners as required.
Test excitation circuits and output windings.
Reassemble, align and complete operational testing.

Transformers and instrument coils

Disassemble and rewind single-phase and three-phase transformer coils.
Complete insulation layering, impregnation and curing of transformer windings.
Perform ratio testing and insulation resistance testing.
Rewind and test contactor, relay, solenoid and instrument coils.
Complete final electrical testing, inspection and quality checks.

Qualifications and experience

Relevant electrical trade qualification or demonstrated motor-winding experience appropriate to the duties of the role.
Electrical licence or authority required for any licensed electrical work undertaken in NSW.
Experience with AC and DC motors, generators, alternators, transformers or industrial electrical equipment is highly regarded.
Ability to interpret winding data, electrical drawings, test results and technical specifications.
Current Australian driver's licence and Construction White Card where site work requires them.

Skills and attributes

Strong fault-finding, mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
Commitment to safe work, quality workmanship and accurate documentation.
Ability to work independently and contribute positively within a workshop team.
Clear communication and professional conduct when dealing with customers and site personnel.
Ability to plan work, meet agreed timeframes and raise technical or safety concerns promptly.
Physical and work requirements

The role involves workshop and on-site work and may require standing for extended periods, manual handling, use of hand and power tools, working around industrial equipment and wearing required personal protective equipment. Any manual handling must be completed within the employee's capacity and in accordance with approved controls and assistance arrangements.

Work is completed safely, to specification and within agreed timeframes.
Testing and quality records are complete, accurate and traceable.
Rework, damage and waste are minimised through careful workmanship.
Customers and colleagues receive reliable, respectful and professional service.

Pay: $79,000.00 – $85,000.00 per year
