The Opportunity

Here at The Kids Research Institute Australia, we’re passionate about helping our researchers succeed and translate their discoveries into real-world innovation and impact.

Our Legal & Contracts team plays a vital role in enabling this work by providing expert contract support and general legal advice to researchers and professional services teams across the Institute. We now have an exciting opportunity for a Corporate and Contracts Lawyer to join our established team.

In this varied and dynamic role, you will support the Legal & Contracts Manager to identify and progress collaborations and commercial opportunities for our world-renowned researchers. You will be responsible for the development, review, negotiation and effective management of research and commercial contracts. The position also works closely with the Senior Lawyer to provide high quality, commercially focused legal advice to Institute staff across a broad range of areas including contracts, IP, technology, legislation and compliance.

Key responsibilities:

Act as a legal business partner to research themes and teams within the Institute to facilitate research projects and manage legal risk.
Deliver efficient and high-quality legal and contracting services.
Prepare and review a wide range of research, funding and general commercial contracts and arrangements.
Communicate with internal and external stakeholders to provide legal advice and ensure compliance with relevant legislation, Institute standards and policies.
Advise on effect of contractual terms and conditions, including rights and obligations and commercial risks of a contract.

Based in our offices within Perth Children’s Hospital in Nedlands, this a full-time permanent position.The Kids Research Institute Australia supports flexible working arrangements and for the right candidate the position may be offered as a part-time role.

About You

The ideal applicant will have a tertiary qualification in law and practical experience in contract or commercial law. You will be able to thrive in a dynamic environment and engage with a wide range of people in order to manage challenges with consideration and professionalism. You will also demonstrate:

Contract development and negotiation experience.
Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail, flexibility and ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.
Ability to analyse information to provide well-informed recommendations and guidance to resolve complex issues/problems.
Ability to be self-motivated and work autonomously as well as part of a team, with a flexible, positive and collaborative approach.
Medical research industry experience is highly desirable.
