Full Job Description

We're seeking someone to fill an ongoing casual position providing companionship and social interaction to a client with disability. The role involves building a positive connection and helping create a relaxed and supportive environment.

The role involves both in-home and out-of-home activities. Core activities include accompanying the client to the gym and reading together at home. Other activities may include visiting restaurants, cafes and shopping centres, preparing simple meals and snacks together, and participating in other recreational activities.

The ideal applicant is someone who is positive, open-minded, and finds fulfilment in making a genuine difference in the lives of others. They will be warm, attentive, and able to build a close connection with the client. They will also have their own hobbies and interests they enjoy sharing. Whether that's fitness, reading, sport, gaming, cooking, music, or other interests, they're able to contribute to engaging conversations and shared activities.

Shift times can be flexible; however, applicants must have regular availability on at least one of the following days: Monday, Wednesday or Friday. This role is well suited to university students with varying class schedules.

As part of the recruitment process, shortlisted applicants may be asked to submit a short video of themselves reading a passage from one of their favourite books. Applicants who wish to strengthen their application are encouraged to include this with their initial application by providing a Google Drive or Dropbox link in their cover letter.

Personable and presentable
Reliable and dependable
Comfortable providing one-on-one companionship
Comfortable working in a role that may involve some physical contact

Desirable:

Previous babysitting experience
Experience facilitating recreational, social, or community activities

Job Type: Casual

Pay: $45.00 – $81.00 per hour
