Primary objective
Work collaboratively in delivering high quality educational programs for students with complex disability and additional
needs in partnership with families, community and professional networks to achieve optimal educational and social emotional
outcomes for these students.

Context statement
Jabiru is a community transitioning from a traditional base as a mining community. It is transforming into an Indigenous led
tourism and local government centre. Jabiru is located approximately 250 km east of Darwin in West Arnhem Land. The
school caters for students from birth to senior secondary. Current enrolment is 160, with what is increasingly a
predominantly Indigenous EaLD learner student cohort. The school has a strategic focus on improving student wellbeing and
engagement, building strong community/school partnerships, and creating strong employment outcomes and opportunities
for school leavers.

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Actively participate in the planning, preparation, delivery, and assessment of targeted reading intervention programs,

including one‑to‑one and small‑group instruction.
2. Maintain positive working relationships with students, families and colleagues, ensuring confidentiality and culturally

responsive practice.
3. Implement evidence‑based reading strategies with consistency and fidelity, using school‑approved intervention programs

and progress monitoring tools.
4. Manage and complete administrative tasks related to reading intervention delivery, including data entry, assessment

tracking, resource preparation and student work samples.
5. Create and maintain reading materials and intervention resources suited to individual student needs.
6. Prioritise and complete tasks under limited supervision, adhering to school and DOE policies in a dynamic environment

where student and staff safety remain paramount

Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated recent experience supporting students with significantly below‑level literacy skills, including

implementation of structured reading intervention programs and progress monitoring.
2. Proven ability to use a range of communication and instructional strategies to engage reluctant or struggling readers,

including students with language, attention, or behavioural barriers to learning.
3. Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and families to strengthen literacy

outcomes.
4. Demonstrated capacity to manage administrative and data‑related tasks efficiently while working under pressure and

responding to changing school priorities.
5. Current NT Working with Children Notice (Ochre Card) or ability to obtain one.

Desirable
Literacy‑related qualifications, or the ability to obtain relevant training in evidence‑based reading intervention programs, are
desirable.
