Primary objective
As a senior educational leader, the Assistant Principal undertakes a key role in the leadership, development and delivery of programs that
enhance the educational outcomes of students and the wellbeing of the school community.
Context statement
Ramingining is an Aboriginal Australian community of mainly Yolngu people in the Northern Territory, Australia, 560 kilometres east of
Darwin. It is on the edge of the Arafura Swamp in Arnhem Land. Ramingining School is a very remote indigenous school situated in East
Arnhem Land. The school has an active Families as First Teachers (FaFT) program, Pre-school, Primary, Middle Years, and Senior Secondary
with an enrolment of 250 students. The students speak in their first language and English is a second or third language. The Yolngu families
are very active in their culture and Yolngu and non-Indigenous teachers work as teams to plan and teach the whole school curriculum.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Contribute effectively to the development and implementation of the educational vision for the school and work with the school
community to translate this into goals, priorities and plans that improve student wellbeing and student outcomes.
2. Oversee the development and implementation of whole school initiatives and approaches that target improving student outcomes,
including wellbeing and inclusion. Provide advice to the principal and school community on these matters.
3. Oversee and coordinate support for students with additional needs
4. Monitor the ongoing assessment, evaluation and reporting processes throughout the school.
5. Manage the provision of professional development and other strategies for the attainment of the highest possible professional
standards within the school community.
6. Mentor and coach, all teachers to use data effectively to improve classroom practice.
Selection Criteria
Essential
1. Registration with the Teacher Registration Board of the NT and a current Northern Territory Working with Children Clearance ochre
card.
2. Proven ability to lead and work collaboratively with teaching teams and parents in a remote cross-cultural context to achieve high-
quality educational outcomes for students.
3. Demonstrated comprehensive knowledge of contemporary pedagogical practices, particularly those related to literacy and numeracy
in an English as a Second Language (ESL) context and contemporary inclusion, behaviour management and wellbeing practices.
4. Experience in mentoring and coaching for effective staff development and change management and the ability to interact effectively
with people from diverse cultures.
Desirable
1. Qualification in coaching and/or mentoring.
