About the Role
Newington College is seeking a motivated and organised Laboratory Assistant to support the delivery of high-quality teaching and learning within our Science Department. This is a permanent, full-time role (term time only, 38 weeks per year), based at our Stanmore campus.

Working under the direction of the Laboratory Manager, you will play a key role in preparing and maintaining laboratory resources, supporting practical lessons, and ensuring the safe and effective operation of our science laboratories.

This role is critical to the smooth running of practical science lessons and will involve a mix of technical preparation, resource management, and collaboration with teaching staff.

Key responsibilities include:

Preparing and setting up practical experiments and laboratory equipment
Supporting teachers and students during practical lessons, including setup and pack down
Providing technical guidance on equipment use and laboratory procedures
Managing chemical stocks and ensuring compliance with safety and storage requirements
Maintaining laboratories and preparation areas in a safe, clean, and organised condition
Assisting with procurement, stock control, and equipment maintenance
Supporting the delivery of large-scale practical assessments and science activities

You will work both independently and as part of a collaborative team, with the potential to support across multiple laboratory spaces.

About You

We are seeking a candidate who is organised, proactive, and committed to maintaining high standards of safety and support within a laboratory environment.
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

Strong communication skills and attention to detail
A Certificate III (or equivalent) in a relevant field
Experience working with chemicals and familiarity with Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
Knowledge of chemical storage, handling, and disposal practices, including GHS labelling
Strong time management and the ability to prioritise tasks in a fast-paced environment
Sound judgement, initiative, and problem-solving capability
A collaborative approach and positive contribution to team culture

Experience in a school environment or familiarity with platforms such as RiskAssess will be highly regarded.
