At Urban Utilities, our purpose is simple yet powerful – Enrich Quality of Life. With a $7 billion asset base and services spanning 1.5 million residents and more than 31,000 commercial customers across South East Queensland, we are committed to enhancing the liveability of our communities every day.
Your Opportunity
We have an opportunity for an experienced Senior Business Analyst to join our Digital & Information team and support the delivery of key digital projects and initiatives across Urban Utilities.
Working closely with Project Managers, business stakeholders and technical delivery teams, you will play a key role in understanding business needs, analysing requirements and translating them into clear, structured and practical delivery outcomes.
This role sits within our Digital Applications team, which operates within the “Build” stream of our Plan, Build, Run delivery model. In this space, the focus is on designing, improving and delivering digital solutions that support our people, systems, customers and communities.
This is a great opportunity for someone who can hit the ground running, bring strong business analysis capability and confidently work across a range of projects, stakeholders and delivery environments. You will help ensure business problems are well understood, requirements are clearly defined, and solutions are aligned to operational needs and project outcomes.
What You’ll Deliver
- Partner with Project Managers, business stakeholders and delivery teams to elicit, analyse, document and validate business and functional requirements.
- Translate business needs into clear and structured artefacts, including business requirements, user stories, process maps, acceptance criteria and other analysis documentation.
- Facilitate workshops and stakeholder engagement sessions to understand current-state processes, define future-state requirements and support agreed delivery outcomes.
- Support digital project delivery across the full lifecycle, including requirements clarification, issue resolution, testing support, implementation activities and handover to business-as-usual teams.
- Work closely with developers, testers, architects and business representatives to ensure requirements are understood, traceable and aligned to operational objectives, governance expectations and program outcomes.
- Assist with SIT, UAT and change activities, including requirements traceability, validation, training materials, FAQs and stakeholder engagement.
- Identify risks, dependencies, assumptions and impacts relating to delivery activities and support practical resolution throughout the project lifecycle.
About You
You are an experienced Business Analyst or Senior Business Analyst who is confident working across digital, ICT or technology project environments. You bring strong analytical capability, sound judgement and the ability to dig beneath surface-level requests to understand the real business problem.
You will also bring:
- Strong experience in business analysis within digital, technology, ICT or project delivery environments.
- Demonstrated capability in requirements gathering, documentation, analysis and validation, using contemporary business analysis practices and frameworks such as BABOK.
- Experience developing user stories, acceptance criteria, business requirements, process maps and other analysis artefacts.
- Strong current-state and future-state process mapping skills, ideally using tools such as Visio, BPMN or similar.
- Strong stakeholder engagement, workshop facilitation and communication skills.
- The ability to work effectively with Project Managers, developers, testers, architects and business stakeholders.
- Experience supporting testing, implementation, change and handover activities.
- The ability to manage competing priorities and work across small initiatives, larger projects and changing delivery needs.
- Experience working in Agile, Waterfall or hybrid delivery environments.
- Experience using tools such as JIRA, Confluence or similar would be highly regarded.
- Utilities experience is not essential, but experience working in complex project or operational environments would be beneficial.
