The Department of Health plays a critical role in the Victorian health system and is responsible for shaping it to meet the health needs of all Victorians. We’re focused on

About the role:

The Senior Policy Officer will play a key role in leading on the delivery of strategic reform initiatives across the AOD portfolio, with a particular focus on system reform design and implementation. The Service Reform team is responsible for the implementation of government commitments within the harm reduction portfolio, including the delivery of the Statewide Action Plan to reduce drug related harm.

Day to day tasks include coordinating projects, providing advice, maintaining stakeholder relationships, and supporting planning and commissioning activities. The role involves developing effective relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders as well as with program and policy areas within the department.

To be successful in this role, you will be a high performing individual with strong analytical, problem solving, policy development and communication skills. The role would be suited to individuals who are comfortable working with complex issues, in multidisciplinary teams and with a range of internal and external stakeholders to deliver complex projects.

About you:

Can you demonstate the following?

Develops policy frameworks within area of expertise or responsibility based on defined organisational priorities
Participates in strategic planning and contributes to strategic decision making process
Draft and develop material including the preparation of Cabinet and Cabinet related material, Ministerial and Secretary briefings and meeting papers, agendas, minutes and reports.
Develops briefs on highly complex issues that provide options for decision within an organisation
Initiates and manages negotiations with peers (internal and external to work unit) to gain commitment to projects, and delivery of activities to meet timelines
Provides and receives highly complex, contentious or sensitive information where high levels of negotiation, communication and interpersonal skills are required

Qualifications / Specialist Expertise

A tertiary qualification in fields related to public health, public policy or health administration would be desirable.
Significant knowledge and experience in government, health systems and/or health service delivery would be desirable, with skills and experience in policy development and implementation.
