About the role:

This is a new position created as an organisational priority and commitment to developing the organisations' data analytics capability. The Chief Data Officer (CDO) is the organisation's senior executive accountable for the strategic leadership, governance, ethical assurance and value realisation of enterprise data, analytics and artificial intelligence (AI). The role ensures that data and AI are used lawfully, ethically, transparently and explainable way to enhance operational policing, intelligence-led decision-making, organisational performance and public trust.

Victoria Police is a contemporary and agile workplace and supports flexible working arrangements.

Your duties will include:

Set strategic direction for data, analytics, and intelligence across the organisation.
Establish data governance structures, policies, and standards.
Oversee development of analytical products that support operational and strategic decision-
Ensure compliance with privacy, human rights, and information legislation.
Provide executive advice on data, technology, and ethical risk.
Lead organisational change to improve data maturity and capability.
Approve data sharing agreements and analytic methodologies.
Sponsor major data and analytics programs and investments.
Manage budgets, contracts, and performance of data functions.
Prepare executive briefs, submissions, and reports.
Represent the organisation at senior governance and inter-agency forums.

About You:

The successful candidate will ideally have the following skills and experience:

Effective communication and influencing skills.
Extensive senior leadership experience in data, analytics, intelligence, or information governance.
Demonstrated experience in complex, high-risk, regulated environments (e.g., law enforcement, justice, defence, or government).
Strong understanding of privacy, ethics, and human rights in data use.
Tertiary qualifications in data science, analytics, information management, law, public administration, or related field.

Further Information:

One (1) x full-time, ongoing position available.
VPSG7 salary range.
This position is located at Victoria Police Centre, 311 Spencer Street, Docklands.
The successful applicant will be required to undergo National Security Vetting, achieve and maintain a security classification as determined by the Department Head. To achieve this, applicants must be an Australian Citizen.
The successful candidate will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
