Aboriginal Community Engagement Officer

This is an identified Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander position. The LECC considers that being Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander is a genuine occupational qualification under s 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).

About Us:

The Law Enforcement Conduct Commission (LECC) is an independent body exercising royal commission powers to detect, investigate and expose serious misconduct within the NSW Police Force (NSWPF) and the NSW Crime Commission (NSWCC). The LECC also independently monitors and reviews the investigation of complaints by the NSWPF and the NSWCC about the conduct of their officers. In doing so the LECC recognises the primary responsibility of those agencies to investigate and prevent officer misconduct and corruption within those agencies, while providing for oversight of those functions.

The LECC works collaboratively with the NSWPF and the NSWCC to educate and promote the prevention and elimination of officer misconduct, particularly through the identification of systemic issues that are likely to be conducive to the occurrence of officer misconduct and corruption. The LECC also undertakes independent, real-time monitoring of critical incident investigations undertaken by the NSWPF and can make reports on the conduct of critical incident investigations by the NSWPF.

About the role:
Aboriginality is an essential requirement of the role. Applicants for this position must be of Aboriginal descent through parentage, identify as being Aboriginal and be accepted in the community as such. All applicants must supply either a letter of Aboriginality signed under the common seal from a recognised incorporated Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Community organisation such as Land Council or Elders group, Aboriginal Medical Service or a letter on letterhead from a Local Aboriginal Land Council demonstrating membership of the Council.

The Aboriginal Engagement Officer will work within a small community engagement team within the Commission’s Prevention and Engagement team. In close collaboration with the Senior Aboriginal Engagement Officer, this role will be responsible for engaging and building relationships within the community, increasing engagement between the Commission and Aboriginal communities, and building organisational capacity to ensure access, equity, and inclusion of Aboriginal people in a culturally appropriate way. The role will also help to undertake engagement with other community groups as needed by the Commission.

About you:

We are looking for a passionate and culturally grounded individual who brings a deep understanding of trans-generational trauma and its impacts on Aboriginal communities. You will be a confident communicator, able to build trust, navigate complex conversations, and engage respectfully across diverse groups. Whether your experience comes directly from community engagement, project management, or transferable roles within community services or similar sectors, you will bring strong organisational and time management skills, a proactive approach, and a genuine commitment to empowering community voices and strengthening relationships. You will have the flexibility to travel across NSW and work on weekends as required for the role.

Security Vetting
