Do you want to own the product thousands of students use to learn, not just ship features off someone else's roadmap?
At Contour, we've proven product-market fit and exploded from a scrappy startup to a high-growth scale-up. Now we're building the next version of Contour: a learning ecosystem that thousands of students, parents, and tutors live in every day, across three brands and a growing number of states.
So far, our product has been founder-led, built on instinct, late nights, and a deep understanding of what students need. That got us a custom learning portal, a national tutoring operation, and a place on the AFR Fast 100 four years running. But we're past the point where one person can hold the whole product in their head.
We're looking for our first Senior Product Manager, the person who turns "what students want" into a real roadmap, a real research practice, and a real product function. Reporting directly to the CEO, you'll be the eyes and ears for our students, the one who knows what they're struggling with before anyone else does, and then innovates from first principles using the frontier of technology to solve it.
You'll own the product across our learning portal, student and parent apps, enrolment, and internal tutor tools, working hand-in-glove with our Engineering Lead as a true partner: two people who both bring product thinking, both push back, and both own the outcome.
This isn't a backlog-grooming role. It's a build-the-function role. You'll be given the autonomy, the AI tooling, and the founder access to set the bar for what great product looks like at Contour, and then go hit it.
At Contour, we’re reshaping education, one student at a time.
Since 2020, over 10,000+ students have trusted Contour to guide their academic journey, and we’ve grown to over 400+ team members. We’ve produced hundreds of 99+ ATARs, tutored the World-Record UCAT scorer, and placed more students into medical school than any school in Australia.
Our growth is a testament to the simple philosophy: Put the student first, always. Everything we design, from our world-class tutor-training programs to our purpose-built campuses, exists to help students master content faster, perform with confidence, and even rekindle the joy of learning.
Contour is a group of three brands united by one goal: to give every student the best chance to achieve their full potential:
-
Contour Education: Reshaping how students master their high school subjects with small-group tutoring, structured resources, and 1-on-1 support across Maths, Science, and English.
-
Contour Medprep: Reshaping medical preparation with a proven, step-by-step pathway through the UCAT, interviews, and admissions, led by a team of 100+ medical students.
-
Contour TestPrep: Reshaping test preparation, starting with the selective entry exam, through rigorous tutoring, mock exams, and data-driven feedback to give students a decisive advantage.
This is Contour. Built by students, for students.
As our first Senior Product Manager, you will own the product practice and partner with engineering to build what comes next.
-
Own the Vision & Roadmap: Set where the product goes over the next one to three years, turn it into a sequenced roadmap across the learning portal, apps, enrolment, and tutor tools, and decide what gets built, what waits, and what gets killed. You own the direction and the result, accountable for what we build, why, and whether it moved the needle for students.
-
Be the Eyes & Ears: Get close to students, parents, and tutors, and know the wider EdTech landscape just as well. Run the research, sit in on sessions, read the support tickets, and understand what students could get elsewhere and where the technology is heading. Don't outsource understanding the user.
-
Define & Prioritise the Work: Turn the roadmap into specs the team can build from, user stories, acceptance criteria, edge cases, and make the hard prioritisation calls with engineering. You bring the user and business case; they bring the technical reality; the trade-offs get made in the open.
-
Partner with Engineering to Build: Work hand-in-glove with the Engineering Lead, owning scope, sequencing, and launch readiness together: two people, one outcome. You can prototype an idea on your own, then use AI to move faster, with real opinions on where AI deepens the student experience and where it's just theatre.
-
Design the Experience: Own design end-to-end until we hire a dedicated designer, so strong design instincts aren't optional. Care about how it feels, not just whether it works.
-
Ship, Measure & Iterate: Ship small and often, get a real version in front of students, read the data, and iterate rather than polishing v1 for six months. Define what success looks like, instrument it, and own the launch handoff with marketing and customer experience so what ships actually lands.
-
Align the Organisation: Tell the story of where the product is going and keep everyone pulling the same way, founders, academics, marketing, sales, and campus ops. Be straight when the answer is no.
Set the Bar & Build the Function: Establish what great product looks like at Contour, and as we scale, build out a product team and practice from the ground up.
-
A Proven Senior PM: You have 5+ years in product management with a track record of owning real products end-to-end in a high-growth B2C or consumer environment. You've shipped things people actually use.
-
An Owner, Not an Executor: You have a full-ownership mentality. You're just as comfortable setting product strategy as you are writing the spec, prototyping the flow, and chasing the bug. You don't wait to be told what's broken.
-
A True Partner to Engineering: You know how to earn an engineer's trust. You understand enough of the technical reality to scope well, prototype with AI, and make trade-offs you can both defend. You see the Engineering Lead as a partner in product, not just a build resource.
-
A Discovery-Driven Builder: You're obsessed with the user. You talk to them, watch them, and let what you learn change your mind. You can tell the difference between what people say they want and what they'll actually use.
-
Data-Fluent: You're highly analytical and comfortable defining metrics, reading product analytics, and turning numbers into decisions. You know the difference between engagement that flatters and outcomes that matter.
-
AI-Native, With Judgment: You're fluent in the craft tools a PM builds with, Figma and the rest, and just as fluent with AI on top of them. But you know the tools are the easy part. You read AI output critically instead of taking it at face value, and you build with probabilistic systems, evals and guardrails, rather than just prompting them.
-
You Have Taste: In a world where anyone can generate a passable feature in an afternoon, taste is the moat. You feel the difference between something that's fine and something that's right, and you sweat the details that make a product feel considered rather than churned out. You're allergic to AI slop, and you'd rather ship one thing students love than ten they tolerate.
-
A Strong Communicator: You can write a crisp spec, tell a compelling product story to the leadership team, and bring a sceptical room along with you. You influence without authority.
-
Ambitious & Hands-On: You thrive in a fast-paced environment where you can make a significant impact, and you'd rather ship and iterate than write documentation for months.
Bonus Points: An engineering or technical background is a nice-to-have (you don't need to code day-to-day, but being able to read it and talk credibly with engineers helps). Experience in education, EdTech, LMS or consumer-app products, or scaling a product function as a first PM hire.
-
High Impact: This isn't a "keep the lights on" role. You will be the architect of the product thousands of students use to learn, with your work directly impacting their results and their relationship with learning.
-
Ownership & Autonomy: You'll have the freedom and trust to build the product function your way, in direct collaboration with the co-founders, the Engineering Lead, and the leadership team.
-
Clear Path for Growth: This is a pivotal, foundational role with significant growth opportunities. As the organisation scales nationally and our product function grows, this position is designed to evolve toward senior product leadership, with the potential to become a Head of Product in the future.
-
Competitive Package: We offer a competitive salary for top-tier talent and a flexible, hybrid environment where we value output, not hours at a desk. Our supportive benefits include an EAP, birthday/loyalty leave, and lifestyle allowances.
-
A Vision to Believe In: We're ambitious, passionate, and on a mission to reshape education in Australia (and beyond). Our goal is for Contour to become the most trusted name in tutoring nationwide.
The product you build should feel like Contour the moment a student opens it. That's the bar.
If this challenge sparks something in you, your drive to build a product that changes outcomes, and to take your career to the next level, this is the role for you! Feel free to reach out directly to [email protected] if you have any questions :)
