About Us

Australian Hammer Hire specialise in providing market leading excavator hire and excavator mounted attachment hire solutions. We are a fast-growing Australian family-owned company, with a focus on providing the best service for our customers.

We are seeking multiple experienced Fitters (General) to join our workshop team. This position suits a trade-qualified person who enjoys a varied role involving equipment maintenance, machinery repairs and workshop fabrication.

About the Role

As a valued member of our workshop, you will be responsible for maintaining, repairing and assembling a wide variety of mechanical equipment and machinery while ensuring all work is completed safely and to a high standard.

Key Responsibilities

Diagnose mechanical faults and determine suitable repair methods.
Carry out servicing, maintenance and overhaul of industrial and heavy mechanical equipment.
Assemble, fit and install mechanical components and equipment.
Replace worn or damaged components using appropriate workshop equipment and measuring instruments.
Perform preventative maintenance to minimise equipment downtime.
Read and interpret engineering drawings, service manuals and technical documentation.
Conduct testing and inspections to ensure equipment is operating correctly before release.
Assist with fabrication, modification and refurbishment projects when required.
Maintain accurate service records and complete required documentation.
Follow workplace health and safety procedures and maintain a clean, organised work environment.
Work collaboratively with workshop personnel to meet customer deadlines.

Essential Requirements

Australian recognised Certificate III Fitter (General), (or equivalent recognised qualification).
Minimum three years' post-trade experience in mechanical fitting, industrial maintenance or heavy equipment repairs.
Ability to interpret technical drawings and manufacturer specifications.
Experience using precision measuring equipment and workshop tools.
Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Commitment to workplace safety and quality workmanship.

Desirable Skills

Experience working on construction, mining or industrial machinery.
Hydraulic and pneumatic systems experience.
Welding and fabrication experience.
Forklift licence (or willingness to obtain).
Australian Driver Licence (or willingness to obtain).
