About the Opportunity
Join the dedicated perioperative team at Kurri Kurri District Hospital, a valued part of the Lower Hunter community proudly serving Kurri Kurri, Abermain, Weston and Heddon Greta.
We are looking for a Registered Nurse with Anaesthetic and/or Recovery experience to join our close-knit theatre team. This is an excellent opportunity to use your existing perioperative skills while continuing to develop your expertise across the anaesthetic and recovery phases of the patient journey. Our hospital provides a broad range of medical, specialist surgical, rehabilitation, emergency and allied health services, giving you exposure to a diverse range of clinical presentations and procedures. This is a Monday to Friday role, offering excellent work-life balance within a supportive and collaborative perioperative environment. From day one, you’ll be supported through a structured buddy program, guidance from the Nurse Unit Manager and access to ongoing professional development, including study days and education opportunities.
As a Perioperative Registered Nurse, you will provide safe, evidence-based and patient-centred care throughout the anaesthetic and recovery journey.
You will:
- Provide high-quality nursing care to patients undergoing a variety of surgical procedures.
- Undertake anaesthetic nursing responsibilities, including preparation and support of patients throughout the perioperative process.
- Provide safe and effective post-anaesthetic recovery care, including monitoring patients and recognising and responding to changes in their clinical condition.
- Complete comprehensive patient assessments and accurately document clinical care.
- Work collaboratively with anaesthetists, surgeons, nurses and the broader multidisciplinary team.
- Promote patient safety through effective communication, clinical judgement and adherence to evidence-based practice.
- Contribute to maintaining a safe, efficient and well-organised perioperative environment.
- Participate in quality improvement, education and professional development activities.
- Support a positive team culture through collaboration, respect and shared learning.
You will report directly to the Nurse Unit Manager and work alongside an experienced perioperative team committed to delivering safe, high-quality patient care.
We’re looking for a motivated and clinically confident Registered Nurse who has experience in Anaesthetic and/or Recovery nursing and is passionate about delivering high-quality perioperative care.
Our ideal candidate will:
- Have recent experience in nursing within a perioperative environment.
- Demonstrate sound clinical assessment and decision-making skills.
- Be confident recognising and responding to changes in a patient's condition.
- Have a strong understanding of perioperative patient safety and infection prevention and control.
- Communicate effectively with anaesthetists, surgeons, nursing staff and the broader multidisciplinary team.
- Be adaptable, proactive and willing to contribute across the perioperative service.
- Demonstrate professionalism, reliability and a commitment to ongoing learning.
- Contribute positively to a respectful, supportive and collaborative workplace culture.
Experience in Anaesthetic or Recovery would be highly regarded.
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA.
- Recent clinical experience within a perioperative environment.
- Strong clinical assessment, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Commitment to evidence-based practice, patient safety and continuous quality improvement.
- Ability to participate in the department roster, including on-call requirements where applicable.
