About the Opportunity
Join the SSN AUKUS Build Program as a Technical Author – Build Readiness, where you’ll create, coordinate, and maintain high-quality technical documentation to support Operations and Manufacturing Engineering. You’ll work closely with subject matter experts, engineers, planners, and UK-based counterparts to develop documentation that supports build sequencing, work instructions, and operational procedures.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain technical documentation to support production and build readiness
- Collaborate with SMEs and engineers to gather and validate technical content
- Ensure documentation is accurate, complete, and aligned with engineering and production requirements
- Work with planners and UK-based counterparts to support build sequencing and manufacturing readiness
- Ensure documentation complies with program standards and version control protocols
- Contribute to continuous improvement of documentation processes and tools
Please note: Availability for collaboration calls outside normal working hours (UK timezone) is required. Periodic domestic and international travel may also be required on an ad hoc basis.
About You
- Proven experience in technical writing or authoring within a complex engineering or manufacturing environment
- Strong understanding of engineering and production documentation standards
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and engineering data
- Proficiency in document management systems and authoring tools (e.g. Adobe FrameMaker, MS Word, XML-based tools)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple documentation streams
Desirable
- Experience in Defence, shipbuilding, or submarine programs
- Familiarity with UK and/or Australian naval documentation standards
- Experience working in a joint venture or multi-national program environment
- Knowledge of configuration management and version control practices
Eligibility
This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance to an NV1 level. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearance.
