The Nepean Mental Health Centre provides inpatient care for people experiencing acute mental health issues through the short-stay Psychiatric Emergency Care Centre (PECC), the Acute Mental Health Unit, Mental Health High Dependency Unit, and Older Persons Mental Health Unit. We support our Patients by linking them to case managers for ongoing treatment and support within an environment appropriate to the person's needs.

Lead with purpose and make a meaningful impact in mental health nursing care. Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District is seeking a dedicated and experienced Clinical Nurse Unit Manager (CNUM) to lead a dynamic team committed to delivering safe, compassionate and person-centred care. Working collaboratively with patients, families, carers and multidisciplinary teams, you will play a vital role in fostering a positive clinical environment while supporting high-quality outcomes for consumers and the broader community.

As the Clinical Nurse Unit Manager, you will be responsible for the overall leadership, coordination and management of the unit, ensuring the delivery of safe, effective and evidence-based nursing care. You will oversee all aspects of the ward environment, drive clinical excellence, support and develop staff, and ensure the efficient use of resources. This pivotal leadership role requires a strong clinical leader who can balance operational management with a commitment to continuous improvement, quality patient care and positive team culture.

What you will bring to the role

Registered Nurse - Division 1 with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and extensive relevant post registration Nursing experience.
Demonstrated high level of written and verbal communication skills and ability to liaise and negotiate with clinicians, managers, staff and other key stakeholders and manage conflict.
Demonstrated high level of clinical skills, including the ability to form therapeutic relationships, undertake risk assessments, and recognise and respond to clinical deterioration, including through the use of violence prevention and management strategies
Proven ability to create and maintain a positive workplace culture and articulate and achieve a vision for nursing services in the contemporary mental health care environment.
Demonstrated ability to ensure the human, physical and financial resources of the unit/ward are managed to deliver safe and efficient health care within available resources.
