Amazon Logistics (AMZL) is building a world-class last mile operation in Australia. AMZL aims to exceed customer expectations by ensuring orders are delivered quickly, accurately, and cost-effectively.
The AMZL Australia Engineering team is seeking an Automation Engineer who is experienced, innovative, hands-on, and customer-obsessed to lead the development and improvement of control systems for Material Handling Equipment while driving the automation strategy for the Australia region.
In this position, you will improve the capabilities and quality of existing control systems for mechanical equipment, implement control systems for newly introduced equipment in partnership with domestic and international teams, and ensure stable operations. These control systems include network-connected components, and the successful candidate will be expected to take ownership of both implementation and post-implementation issues, including conducting data analysis when problems occur and partnering with stakeholder departments to deliver high-quality systems.
Beyond controls engineering, you will drive part of the automation strategy for the Australia region, identifying new automation solutions and improving existing automation to meet safety, productivity, quality, and cost goals.
This role involves regular communication with partner teams from Japan, Europe, and WW to support parallel development projects.
This role will be based in either Sydney or Melbourne. The position requires regular domestic and international travel (approximately 25% of work time).
Key job responsibilities
- Project management, specification development, implementation, and troubleshooting of control systems for new Material Handling Equipment
- Improvement analysis, project management, implementation, and troubleshooting of existing mechanical control systems
- Research, evaluation, and implementation of new automation solutions for the Australia region, including identifying opportunities to improve existing automation and defining the regional automation strategy
- Partnership with domestic and international teams for project execution, standardization, and development/deployment of best practices
