Senior Classification and Placement Officer

Clerk Grade 7/8

Location: Parklea Correctional Centre

Salary: $116,981 - $129,492 plus superannuation, environmental allowance, and leave loading

Your Role

As a Senior Classification and Placement Officer, you'll play a critical role in ensuring inmates are appropriately classified and placed to support safety, rehabilitation and operational effectiveness across the correctional system.

Leading a team of Classification and Placement Officers, you'll oversee processes that balance security requirements, individual needs and rehabilitation goals. Your expertise will help ensure placement decisions are informed, fair and evidence-based, while supporting efficient inmate management across the state. This is an opportunity to combine leadership, analysis and decision-making to make a meaningful impact every day.

What You Will Do

As the leader of the Classification and Placement Team, you'll coordinate and oversee classification and placement activities within a busy correctional environment, ensuring all decisions align with legislation, policy and operational requirements.

You'll supervise and support a team responsible for assessing inmate classifications, reviewing placement requirements and facilitating transfers across correctional centres. Through your guidance and leadership, you'll ensure decisions are evidence-based, consistent and focused on achieving the best outcomes for both inmates and the broader correctional system.

A significant part of your role will involve reviewing complex information, analysing inmate assessments and ensuring critical details are accurately recorded within the Offender Integrated Management System (OIMS) and case files. You'll provide expert advice to stakeholders, including inmates, case management staff and operational teams, on classification and placement procedures and requirements.

You'll also identify inmates for transfer, complete associated documentation and liaise with the Inmate Transfer Section to coordinate movements across the correctional network.

Beyond day-to-day operations, you'll contribute to continuous improvement by resolving complex classification and placement issues, monitoring inmate population trends, reviewing operational procedures and supporting the development of systems that enhance service delivery.

Most importantly, you'll lead a capable team, building their knowledge and confidence while ensuring quality outcomes in a fast-paced and constantly evolving environment.

What We Are Looking For

We're looking for an experienced leader who can combine sound judgement, strong analytical skills and operational expertise to deliver quality classification and placement outcomes.

You will have experience in classification and placement, offender management, case management, human services or a related operational environment, together with a proven ability to supervise and develop staff.

You are confident analysing complex information, interpreting policies and procedures and making balanced decisions in situations where competing priorities exist. Your attention to detail and commitment to accuracy ensure critical information is appropriately assessed, documented and acted upon.

You thrive in fast-paced environments and can adapt quickly when priorities shift or unexpected issues arise. Strong communication and stakeholder management skills will enable you to work effectively with operational teams, case management staff and external stakeholders.

Most importantly, you'll be a collaborative leader who can motivate teams, drive continuous improvement and contribute to rehabilitation outcomes, operational excellence and safer communities.
