## Position Overview
We are looking for a diligent and experienced Mine Deputy to join our team and play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our mining site. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising underground or surface mining activities, coordinating personnel and resources, and maintaining strict compliance with safety and environmental regulations. This role suits a hands-on leader with strong technical knowledge of mining operations and a genuine commitment to workforce safety. The ideal candidate will bring proven experience in a supervisory mining capacity and the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
## Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review operational designs, schedules, and mine plans to ensure activities are carried out efficiently and in accordance with project requirements
- Determine, source, and coordinate the appropriate equipment and resources required for mining operations, ensuring availability and operational readiness
- Supervise and coordinate all work carried out on the mine site, monitoring progress against planned schedules and addressing any operational issues as they arise
- Liaise and consult regularly with contractors, engineers, geologists, and surveyors to discuss work in progress, resolve technical challenges, and align on project objectives
- Prepare accurate and timely reports on operational progress, incidents, hazards, and resource usage for management and regulatory purposes
- Oversee and supervise all activities involving the handling, storage, and use of explosives, ensuring full compliance with relevant legislation and site procedures
- Monitor and enforce adherence to safety and environmental standards across all site activities, conducting regular inspections and audits to identify and mitigate risks
- Lead pre-shift and toolbox meetings to brief crews on daily tasks, safety requirements, and any site-specific hazards or changes to operational plans
- Respond promptly to incidents, near-misses, and emergency situations, initiating appropriate procedures and ensuring accurate documentation of events
- Mentor and support Miners and other site personnel, providing guidance on safe work practices, procedures, and professional development
- Ensure compliance with relevant state and territory mining legislation, site safety management plans, and company policies at all times
- Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, safety performance, and environmental outcomes, and contribute to the implementation of improvement initiatives
## Required Qualifications & Skills
- Holder of a current Mine Deputy Certificate of Competency (or equivalent statutory qualification recognised in the relevant state or territory)
- Demonstrated experience in a supervisory or deputy role within an underground or open-cut mining environment
- Sound working knowledge of mining legislation, safety management systems, and environmental compliance requirements applicable to Australian operations
- Proven ability to read and interpret mine plans, geological reports, and technical drawings
- Experience supervising and coordinating the safe use of explosives in a mining context
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to manage and motivate diverse site teams effectively
- Competent in preparing operational reports, hazard assessments, and incident documentation to a professional standard
- Proficient in the use of relevant mining software and standard computer applications for scheduling, reporting, and communication
- Current First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain prior to commencement)
- Valid driver's licence appropriate to the role and site requirements
## Preferred Qualifications
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40116 or equivalent), supporting the ability to deliver on-site training and competency assessments
- Experience with specific mining methods relevant to the operation, such as longwall, room and pillar, or drill and blast techniques
- Familiarity with fatigue management protocols and systems used in fly-in fly-out (FIFO) or drive-in drive-out (DIDO) environments
- Exposure to continuous improvement frameworks or formal safety leadership programmes
- Knowledge of current best practices in environmental rehabilitation and sustainable mining operations
