About the Opportunity

Are you passionate about making an impact while working in a dynamic and supportive team? Join Puntukurnu Aboriginal Medical Services (PAMS) as a Community Engagement Officer

The Community Engagement Officer strengthens social and emotional wellbeing by working closely with families, communities, and the SEWB team to deliver culturally grounded support, promote resilience, and help drive wellbeing initiatives across PAMS’ remote communities.

Key Responsibilities:

Deliver culturally appropriate group education on wellbeing and behavioural risk factors.
Support development of culturally informed SEWB program materials.
Work with the Mental Health Counsellor to design community engagement and resilience‑building activities.
Promote healthy lifestyle choices and connection to Country, family and community.
Plan and organise daily work in line with program priorities.
Promote SEWB initiatives, campaigns and workshops across communities.
Build strong relationships through community events, consultation and cultural engagement.
Provide basic education on issues such as family violence, mental health, grief, anger and addictions.
Facilitate meetings and workshops with community stakeholders.
Liaise with families, carers and service providers to support client wellbeing.
Maintain accurate data and reporting to meet KPI and funding requirements.
Assist with risk assessment and compliance for the Beyond Mental Health NIAA Program

About You

To be considered for this position, you must have:

The person identifies as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and is acknowledged as such by their community;
Demonstrated client-focused approach in service provision with genuine understanding of factors affecting the social and emotional well-being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people within our communities;
Communicate, consult and liaise with relevant professionals, clients, staff and community members to achieve identified organisational objectives and goals;
Demonstrated understanding of the unique issues effecting and impacting upon the health of Aboriginal children and families;
Sound written and verbal communication skills with Aboriginal people and stakeholders;
Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team to achieve agreed goals and deadlines;
An ability to work, reside and travel independently in a remote region;
Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team, as well as independently when required; and
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The position involves working with a multicultural organisation where the majority of staff, clients and stakeholders identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. Candidates must be able to demonstrate an understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

About the Organisation

With an administrative hub based in Newman, in the Pilbara region of Western Australia, The Puntukurnu Aboriginal Medical Service (PAMS) provides holistic primary health care to the individuals and families within the remote communities of Jigalong, Parnngurr, Punmu and Kunawarritji.

PAMS aims to improve the standard of health of the Martu people and all Aboriginal people living in the East Pilbara region of Western Australia through the provision of community based, comprehensive primary health care services. We exist to promote the health and well-being of individual community members and to relieve sickness and the suffering of the indigenous community as a whole. We are passionate about providing the highest standard of patient care whilst incorporating a holistic approach toward diagnosis and management of illness.
