Primary objective
To utilise your lived experience of mental health challenges navigating the service to provide meaningful support to adults
and their families, working collaboratively with their care team.

Context statement
Lived experience work is an important contribution to mental health. A Lived Experience Peer Worker is someone who has
experience of being a consumer of mental health services and can share their knowledge to support others in their mental
health care.

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide peer support, assistance, advocacy and information to people accessing mental health services in Central

Australia.
2. Support consumers to attend mental health assessments or reviews with mental health staff.
3. Working collaboratively with mental health staff to help deliver group programs and bring a lived experience perspective

into care. Maintain records of your work.
4. Assist to create or improve information and resources that reflect lived experience values to support the service.
5. Awareness of your own wellbeing, strategies to support yourself and notify Manager if require support.
6. Follow Work Health and Safety policies and procedures to ensure high quality, safe care in the workplace.
7. Work in a culturally responsive way that follows the NT Health processes.

Selection criteria
Essential
1. Individual lived experience of mental health challenges and interactions with mental health services.
2. Ability to build positive relationships with consumers and mental health staff.
3. Confidence working both independently and as part of a team, maintaining records, confidentiality and professional

boundaries.
4. Ability to communicate with people of diverse cultures and backgrounds, in a respectful and non-judgemental way.
5. Knowledge of organisational and computer skills.
6. Knowledge of recovery-oriented practice and peer work values.

Desirable
1. Certificate IV in Peer Work.
